As a seasoned Stardew Valley farmer, I can’t stress enough the importance of investing time and resources into upgrading your barn. Starting with the humble base barn, which I built early in my farming journey, I was able to bring cows into my farm family for 1,500G each. But as I grew more ambitious, I knew I needed more space and capabilities.
In Stardew Valley, to farm animals, you’ll need a suitable structure such as a barn. Having a barn lets you keep cows, providing milk consistently, but remember to look after them. For greater value from your barn livestock, consider upgrading the barn. Upgrades grant access to new animals, accommodate more creatures, offer an automatic feeding system, and additional perks. Here’s how to upgrade from the standard barn to the Big Barn and Deluxe Barn:
Every barn upgrade
Base Barn
To improve your barn, you need to construct the fundamental version initially. You can obtain the basic barn by purchasing it from the Carpenter and supplying the essential items. The barn occupies a 7×4 area on your farm, with this size remaining constant once upgraded. Construction takes three days to complete. The necessary materials are: 6,000G, 350 units of wood, and 150 units of stone. The initial barn enables you to buy cows from Marnie’s Ranch for 1,500G each, and it can accommodate up to four animals.
Big Barn
As a passionate farmer, I’m excited about the upcoming enhancement of my barn, which will now be known as the “Big Barn.” To make this upgrade a reality, I need to gather some resources: 12,000 Gold, 450 pieces of Wood, and 200 blocks of Stone. The process takes merely two days, during which I can still utilize my barn as usual. With the Big Barn, I’ll be able to accommodate up to eight animals, providing them with more space and allowing them to get pregnant. Additionally, this upgrade introduces goats to my farm! I can buy these lovely creatures for 4,000G at Marnie’s Ranch. Every two days, my new goat friends will produce goat milk for me to collect.
