Ever Want Atreus To Shut Up In God of War Ragnarok? There's A Mod For That

As a seasoned gamer with over three decades under my belt, I’ve seen my fair share of game mechanics that either delight or frustrate. In the case of God of War Ragnarok, it was the latter for me – the constant chatter from Atreus and other companions that felt more like a distraction than an aid.

2018 saw the debut of Atreus, Kratos’ son, in God of War. Most gamers were captivated by the strong father-son relationship they witnessed, yet Atreus was somewhat talkative. This trait persisted in the 2022 sequel, God of War Ragnarok. However, a fresh mod has been developed for the recently launched PC version of the game, ensuring that Atreus and other companions no longer disrupt the game’s puzzle-solving experience.

According to IGN, a user on NexusMods named Mophead01 has developed the “Please Shut Up” mod. This modification enhances Sony’s earlier option to reduce the number of hints for the puzzles that Kratos encounters in the game. However, Mophead01 believed this feature only partially addressed the issue as it didn’t prevent Atreus from reminding players about basic actions repeatedly. Consequently, this mod has significantly eliminated more than 1,500 lines of dialogue from the game to minimize these repetitive reminders.

If you’re fed up with your in-game friends repeating things you already understand or feeling like the game is talking down to you because you don’t immediately solve every puzzle, this mod eliminates approximately 1,500 unnecessary, [condescending] voice lines from the game, Mophead01 explained.

Sadly, players using Ragnarok on PlayStation 5 or PlayStation 4 can’t access this mod yet because Sony hasn’t released an update that includes the PC option to mute Atreus for prolonged periods. Therefore, at present, it is only PC gamers who can silence Atreus for extended gameplay.
