Evelyn Dutton: The Most Hated Character in Yellowstone History

Despite Yellowstone wrapping up, fans of Taylor Sheridan’s series remain deeply affected by a certain challenging character, and their dislike for her remains strong to this very moment.

In essence, nearly all characters in Yellowstone are either criminals, killers, or difficult individuals, making it challenging to determine who among them is the most despicable character on the series.

Although the Duttons uphold strong family values, it’s important to note that they may not always be seen as good individuals. For instance, Beth’s tendency to hold grudges and John’s sometimes dubious methods of parenting are open to scrutiny.

For enthusiasts of the Western television series, it’s been evident from the beginning who the champion was. Even though the show has ended, their dislike for her remains undiminished.

Yellowstone fans still hate Evelyn Dutton

As a dedicated gamer, I can’t help but feel the residual ire towards Evelyn Dutton, even though her appearances are limited to flashbacks. Despite passing away before the storyline unfolded, her screen time paints a stark image of a stern parent, especially when it comes to Beth.

In a flashback scene, it’s clear that her behavior shifts significantly when Beth is on her period. She tells Beth, “I have to transform you into the kind of man many will never become, and I apologize in advance for this, because I know you’ll despise it, my dear.

Fundamentally, Evelyn understood the world was dominated by men, so she wanted Beth to be strong and self-reliant. To achieve this, she adopted a firm approach towards Beth, placing significant expectations upon her.

Later on, when Beth’s horse startles Evelyn’s, causing a tragic incident where Evelyn is fatally squashed, Beth responds by sending someone for aid, saying, “Let her fix this mess.

It’s clear that Beth endured harsh judgment from her mother growing up and was even accused of being responsible for her mother’s demise. Given these circumstances, it’s hardly surprising that Beth matures into a bitter and enraged individual.

The fervor among fans remains high, as one Reddit user put it, “She was an appalling individual who caused lasting trauma to her own child.

One person commented, “It seemed like she was attempting to make Beth into a strong woman, but in reality, it was nothing more than abuse.” Another individual chimed in, “To put it bluntly, she was a very poor mother.

One pointed out, ‘When Beth began menstruating, her mother’s affection transformed into resentment. This period in Beth’s life seems to have significantly impacted her, an aspect often overlooked by others.'”

This version maintains the original meaning but uses more natural, easy-to-read language and slightly rearranges the sentence structure for clarity.
