As a passionate movie enthusiast, let me share some exciting news about the “Practical Magic” sequel – or should I say, it’s not quite the same! Contrary to some speculations, Evan Rachel Wood won’t be returning to her witches’ coven. However, this isn’t due to any reluctance on her part to slip back into a witchy robe; instead, she clarified on Instagram that Warner Bros. opted for a different approach.
On July 12, she wrote, “I’ve been fielding many questions about this, so I thought I should clear things up: I was not invited to rejoin the cast of the #PracticalMagic sequel. I offered my services, even if it meant just a single scene or line. I was informed they are recasting. I’m sorry to disappoint the fans, but this decision wasn’t in my hands – I would have gladly reunited with my sisters.”
In the original film, Evan portrayed Kylie, Sally’s (Sandra Bullock) eldest daughter, who bore a striking resemblance to her Aunt Gilly (Nicole Kidman).
Although it’s not yet clear who will portray Kylie in the upcoming sequel, Joey King has been chosen to play one of Sally’s daughters. Her on-screen sister, Alexandra Artrip, is no longer acting, so her character might be recast as well. The rest of the Owens family, Dianne West and Stockard Channing, are indeed returning to reprise their roles as Aunties Frances and Jet. There’s a possibility that Wood could make a special appearance; given the new creative direction, there seems to be potential for more witch characters to join the cast.
