Eva Longoria, Nicholas Galitzine to Lead Voice Cast of Studiocanal’s Animated Film ‘Wings of Freedom’ From ‘Ballerina’ Creators (EXCLUSIVE)

As a seasoned cinephile who has traversed the vast landscapes of cinema history, I find myself captivated by the upcoming animated adventure “Wings of Freedom.” With a stellar cast led by Eva Longoria and Nicholas Galitzine, this film promises to be an exhilarating ride filled with heart, action, and comedy.

Actress Eva Longoria, known for her roles in “Only Murders in the Building” and “The Land of Women,” along with Nicholas Galitzine of “The Idea of You,” will headline the voice cast for the animated adventure film titled “Wings of Freedom.” This movie, set in Mexico, is being produced by Studiocanal and shares a creative team with “Ballerina,” which was called “Leap!” in the U.S.

A touching action-comedy movie titled “Wings of Freedom” is helmed by Laurent Zeitoun, a renowned French screenwriter and producer who has contributed significantly to popular European films over the years. His work ranges from comedy hits like “Intouchables” featuring Omar Sy, to directing animated features such as “Ballerina” and “Fireheart”.

In “Wings of Freedom,” Longoria takes on the role of Salana, a peaceful Eagle who resides in secrecy within her avian sanctuary. However, an unexpected event disrupts her tranquil life and pushes her beyond her familiar boundaries. Galitzine portrays Lieutenant Pirro, a valiant Swift and part of the Animal Air Force. Their journey requires them to challenge Eternity, a sinister AI with ambitions to dominate the planet.

As a movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that come January, we’ll be unveiling “Paddington in Peru.” But before that, we’re giving a sneak peek of another exciting project called “Wings of Freedom” at the American Film Market, starting November 5 in the vibrant city of Las Vegas. Not only will I be promoting this captivating animated feature globally, but I’m also collaborating with Gregory Ouanhon and Zeitoun’s Paris-based company Good Hero to produce it. In territories where our company operates directly, such as France, UK, Germany, Austria, Benelux, Poland, Australia, and New Zealand, “Wings of Freedom” will be distributed by us.

The initial endeavor called “Wings of Freedom” was initiated by Zeitoun and Ouanhon under their organization Good Hero in 2020, with a collaborative effort from Mediawan. Similar to Zeitoun, who spent several years residing in Montreal and successfully managed an animation studio there, Ouanhon boasts an impressive international career, having served in prominent positions at the Shanghai-based company Fundamental Films. Moreover, he was a member of EuropaCorp’s board of directors for a period of three years until 2019.

Zeitoun collaborated on the screenplay for “Wings of Freedom” alongside Nick Luddington, a fellow co-producer and co-writer of the Emmy-winning Netflix animated series “Arcane,” as well as Toby Davies, who has worked on “The Adventures of Paddington.

Prior to the AFM, Zeitoun and Ouanhon shared with EbMaster that Good Hero’s mission is to develop innovative intellectual properties both independently and in partnership with a diverse group of professionals across various disciplines. Thus, “Wings of Freedom” presents a novel, advanced universe where humanity relies on AI to address global warming, but the strategy leads to disaster when AI drones perceive humans as the primary threat to Earth’s survival. By 2340, drones have conquered the planet, leaving humans on the brink of extinction. However, a rebellion emerges, and resilient birds and animals unite worldwide to offer the final chance for human survival: The Animal Air Force.

Zeitoun suggests that there’s a need for innovative intellectual properties due to a sense of repetition, as there is a strong desire for unique concepts. One such narrative universe we’ve developed at Good Hero is ‘Wings of Freedom,’ which was born from an incredibly collaborative and creative process within our team to create worlds that strike a chord with many people.

As a cinema enthusiast, I’ve been deeply involved in collaborations with universities, philosophers, and anthropologists to analyze long-term patterns and predict upcoming advancements. Four years ago, we initiated this research and discovered that the underlying themes were global warming and artificial intelligence. Intrigued by these trends, we pondered: how could we create a cinematic universe that intersects these two trends? This brainstorming led to the conception of ‘Wings of Freedom’.

Meanwhile, Ouanhon shares that the company is focused on creating “exciting adventure movies, thought-provoking ideas, and family-friendly blockbusters.

I find myself deeply influenced by the films from the ’90s and visionaries like Steven Spielberg, who crafted flawed yet motivational protagonists and family-friendly blockbusters brimming with exhilarating adventures.

Zeitoun aimed to select a well-known, charismatic actress who also possessed great strength. In his opinion, Eva fits the bill perfectly as she is not only hilarious and warm but also incredibly powerful.

Galitzine was selected for the role of Lieutenant Pirro due to his “distinct charm, grace, and commanding aura, coupled with a brilliant sense of humor,” as per Ouanhon’s remarks.

Good Hero’s animations stand out among others due to its founders having a background in live-action filmmaking. As Zeitoun puts it, they are deeply passionate about the scripts, a trait that has been instrumental in projects like “Heartbreaker,” “Le plan parfait,” and “Intouchables” which have been adapted into numerous languages.

Over the course of their careers at different firms, Ouanhon asserts that he and Zeitoun have been involved in creating, guiding, funding, or purchasing numerous French films that have sold the highest number of cinema tickets abroad over a 12-year period. These films span genres from action (“Taken” and “Transformers”) to comedy (“The Intouchables”), animation (“Ballerina”), and adventure (“Fireheart”).

Although this character-focused production showcases high-quality animation and a well-crafted script, it’s not as financially grandiose as the “Despicable Me” series from Illumination (a French company backed by Universal Studios).

Zeitoun expresses that this movie aims to demonstrate France’s ability to produce top-tier animation and mainstream entertainment. With world-class talent, renowned educational institutions, and animators who gained experience on American productions, France has the potential to compete at a high level in this field. Furthermore, Zeitoun points out that our team includes individuals who have worked for Illumination, bringing fresh perspectives and unique skills to the table, making significant contributions.

“Wings of Freedom” is expected to hit theaters in 2026.
