As a follower, I can empathize with Eva Longoria‘s decision to seek solace abroad amidst the tumultuous political climate of America under President Trump’s second term. Having spent my entire adult life in Los Angeles, I too have felt the shift in vibe and the unsettling reality that the city I once loved is now grappling with issues like homelessness and high taxes.
Eva Longoria chose to depart from the U.S. during the Covid pandemic, and with Donald Trump serving a second term as president, she has no intention of returning. In an interview with Marie Claire for its November cover story, she shared that she divides her time between homes in Spain and Mexico. The increasing globalization of entertainment allows her to complete her acting projects without needing to be in Hollywood.
Longoria expressed that Los Angeles had been a significant part of his adult life, but even before the pandemic, it was undergoing changes. The atmosphere felt distinctly different. Then, the arrival of Covid-19 accelerated these changes, making him feel as though this phase in his life has reached its conclusion. He emphasized that he doesn’t wish to criticize California, but rather, it seems like a new chapter is beginning for him now.
Longoria expressed gratitude, ‘I’m fortunate,’ she said. ‘I can leave and travel. Many Americans aren’t as blessed. They’ll be trapped in this troubled nation, and I feel anxious and sorrowful for their situation.’
Last summer, Longoria actively campaigned for Kamala Harris’s presidency. She shared her feelings following Trump’s victory over Hillary Clinton in 2016, stating: “I felt a deep questioning, like ‘Does my vote truly matter? Am I actually making an impact?’ I was completely disconnected from the essence of what I believe, as I wholeheartedly trusted that the best candidate would triumph. But then it didn’t happen, and I realized, ‘Oh, it seems that the best person doesn’t always win.’
After Trump clinched his second term as President, I’m no longer taken aback. What left me astounded isn’t him winning, but rather the fact that a person with a criminal record and such an abundance of hatred could ascend to the highest office in our land. I shared this sentiment two days following Trump’s victory during an interview with Marie Claire.
Longoria expressed that our struggle persists, looking towards the future, and emphasized that the current state of the U.S. is alarming. If he stays true to his word, it will remain an unsettling situation.
