Sam Levinson, the creator of Euphoria, has shared what the future holds for the show’s characters after the time jump in season 3. HBO has announced the premiere date for Euphoria season 3 as April 2026 – four years after the last new episodes aired. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Levinson has hinted at significant storylines, suggesting that this season will largely focus on the characters living separate lives.
It’s understandable why it’s difficult to get Zendaya, Jacob Elordi, and Sydney Sweeney together for filming – they’re all incredibly in-demand actors. It also feels realistic that high school friends don’t always stay close. However, some viewers might be disappointed by this storyline.
Viewers connected with Euphoria because of the strong relationships between the characters. While each actor is talented on their own, the show really shines when the characters interact. Later seasons of shows like Veep and Arrested Development suffered by separating their ensemble casts. The show’s storylines are also uneven in quality.
Maddy Is Working At A Hollywood Talent Agency
One of the less exciting plotlines hinted at for Euphoria season 3 involves Maddy working at a Hollywood talent agency and juggling various side jobs. This feels like a missed opportunity for a character who isn’t featured enough already. Placing Maddy in a basic entry-level role in the entertainment industry is a very predictable and uninspired career choice for her.
There’s a rumor going around that Maddy’s secret job involves something scandalous – either working at a strip club or running an escort service like Heidi Fleiss. But that would be a real letdown for her character. While Maddy has used her attractiveness to get what she wants, like with Nate, she’s a much more complex person than that.
I always pictured Maddy as someone who would run her own company, not work for someone else. Her side projects will let her explore being an entrepreneur, but they won’t be her main focus. Introducing Maddy to the world of talent management and social media feels similar to what’s already happening on the HBO show, I Love LA, which already covers that ground.
Rue Is Paying Off Her Debts To Laurie In Mexico
The third season of Euphoria will show Rue in Mexico, attempting to earn money to repay her debt to Laurie, a dangerous drug dealer she met in season 2. Laurie previously gave Rue a large quantity of drugs to sell, but Rue planned to keep them for herself. However, before Rue could act on this, her mother threw the drugs away.
It initially appeared as though Laurie discovering she wouldn’t be paid back would lead to serious trouble for Rue, but season 2 didn’t address it. It’s good that season 3 is revisiting this storyline and bringing Laurie back, though Rue’s current plot feels more like the intense drama of Breaking Bad than the typical tone of Euphoria.
The show Euphoria originally aimed to be a gritty and realistic story about growing up. While it features visually striking scenes of drug use and sex, and definitely exaggerates the high school experience, it started from a place of truth. However, the recent storyline sending the character Rue into a dangerous criminal world in Mexico feels far-fetched and disconnected from that original realism.
Lexi Is An Assistant To A Showrunner
Lexi revealed a lot of personal information about her friends, and now, in season 3 of Euphoria, she’ll be working as an assistant to a TV showrunner. This feels like a logical progression for her character, even if the job itself doesn’t seem glamorous. It’s a practical way for her to move towards her goals, and a position she’s capable of landing.
Lexi’s incredibly elaborate school play proves she has a talent for entertainment. A great way to start a career in television is by assisting a showrunner, which can lead to opportunities in writing. For example, Gordon Smith began as an office assistant on Breaking Bad and is now a writer and director on Vince Gilligan’s new series, Pluribus.
If the show’s creator, Levinson, wants to really emphasize the self-aware themes he started with Lexi’s play, the third season could conclude with Lexi making her own TV show based on their high school lives – and naming it Euphoria. It wouldn’t be shocking if the series ended with Lexi actually creating the show we’ve been watching.
Jules Is At Art School
I’m really excited to see what happens with Jules in season three of Euphoria. Apparently, she’s at art school now, and a big part of her storyline is going to be about the stress of trying to make it as a painter. Honestly, it feels a little…small for someone as complex as Jules to be mainly worried about money. I’m hoping this is just the starting point, and that we’ll see her grapple with some really intense and challenging stuff this season – something that truly digs into her character.
The upcoming season will likely maintain some of the core ideas from the original Euphoria. Placing Jules back in school offers the best opportunity for the show’s signature drama and wild behavior to return in season 3.
Nate & Cassie Are Engaged, Living In The Suburbs
Season 3 of Euphoria will pick up with Nate and Cassie engaged and attempting to build a life together in the suburbs. However, Cassie will struggle with feelings of envy and being stuck as she constantly compares herself to her friends’ seemingly more thrilling lives online. This storyline is currently the most anticipated plotline for the new season.
Nate and Cassie living together in a quiet, ordinary neighborhood could be surprisingly dramatic and entertaining. Back in high school, their secret relationship with the risk of being discovered by Maddy was exciting, and even when they were caught, things felt new and good for a while.
The initial excitement of their relationship won’t last forever. Five years from now, Nate and Cassie might actually end up hating each other. It’ll be interesting—and probably dramatic—to see how Euphoria season 3 develops this incredibly messy relationship.
