Eugene’s Dream Return Story

Actor Josh McDermitt, hailing from Eugene, shared with TopMob his desire to reappear in “The Walking Dead” series, and moreover, he has a clear vision on how this comeback could unfold.

In the world of “The Walking Dead,” I found myself among the fortunate few still breathing – Eugene Porter to be exact. Life took me to the Commonwealth, where I coexist with my wife, Maxxine, our daughter, Rosie, and the child of a fallen friend, Coco. Together, we strive to navigate this post-apocalyptic reality.

Josh McDermitt Reveals Hopes for The Walking Dead Return (Exclusive)

In a recent conversation about his character in the show “Suits LA”, Sam Hargrave, from TopMob, had a chat with actor Josh McDermitt, known for his role as Eugene in “The Walking Dead”.

When inquired about the possibility of joining other actors from “The Walking Dead” in spin-offs like “Dead City”, “The Ones Who Live”, and “Daryl Dixon”, McDermitt expressed hopefulness, mentioning that he frequently discusses a potential comeback with franchise head Scott Gimple.

From TopMob: “Many actors from ‘The Walking Dead’ have made a comeback in recent spin-offs. Could we expect Eugene to return as well? And if he does make an appearance again, what exciting scenarios would you like to see unfold with him?

McDermitt: “I’m quite optimistic. In fact, I frequently converse with Scott Gimple, who used to run the show and later became the Chief Content Officer for all the spinoffs. We chat often, and I’m always proposing ideas about what character Eugene might be doing now.

It’s not just Josh McDermitt who has expressed a desire to return; Khary Payton, known for his role as King Ezekiel in the community, hinted that he might come back too, stating he “has a sense” of returning according to TopMob.

Moving forward, McDermitt shared his vision for Eugene’s comeback in the world of “The Walking Dead,” highlighting a significant leap in time and a journey, or road trip, with the two children he has been caring for since Season 12.

I’d be thrilled for a chance to embark on a road trip with Eugene. Though we last saw him at the end of the series with a grown daughter, I imagine a time leap where they’ve progressed into their teenage years. It would be fascinating to witness this journey, with Eugene, his daughter, and essentially, his niece, exploring the world together.

He considered the idea as being perfect for humor, implying that Eugene might plan a road trip with the children and instruct them in survival skills.

It seems to me that situation would make for an entertaining comedy, especially considering he’s tasked with teaching them survival skills, life lessons, and everyday activities since they’ve grown up confined within protective walls. Watching them embark on a road trip comedy sounds intriguing to me.

How Eugene Could Return to The Walking Dead Universe

Scott Gimple, the Chief Content Officer for Franchise, expressed eagerness to produce more episodes of the anthology series Tales From The Walking Dead. Josh McDermitt’s idea of a humorous post-apocalyptic family road trip might suit perfectly as an episode within that show.

Given that the Commonwealth was one of the surviving societies post-events in “The Walking Dead”, it’s reasonable to assume this setting could reappear in the future of the franchise. When this happens, we can expect characters like Eugene (who served as an educator) and Ezekiel (the community’s leader) to potentially return to our screens.

Previously, Gimple shared his ambition with TVLine of combining the spin-offs from The Walking Dead into a single, interconnected storyline, similar to the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s The Avengers. This significant crossover event could potentially see the return of the main actors from the original series, offering fans an exciting opportunity to catch up with beloved characters like Eugene and others once again.

Currently, Josh McDermitt can be seen on NBC’s show “Suits LA”, portraying the character Stuart Lane. The series is aired every Sunday evening at 9 p.m., Eastern and Pacific Time, with it being available on Peacock the following day.
