In Euro Truck Simulator 2, Project Japan unveils an authentic Japanese map as a new addition. The level of detail and expanse is remarkable, matching that of the game’s official expansions without compromise.

Project Japan in detail

In the initial stage of the project, launched in 2017, the focus was on the Hokuriku region in Japan as it lies at the heart of the Japanese map. The author commenced this phase due to its central location. Progress was initially sluggish, but picked up speed in 2019 with the addition of new team members and collaboration with fans contributing to Japanese modifications for “Cities: Skylines.” This partnership led to a notable increase in the generation of new visual elements.

As the team expanded, their goals for the project became more ambitious. At first, they intended to construct a 1/19 scale model of Japan. But soon they realized that this approach lacked complexity and failed to accurately depict Japan’s intricate road system. Consequently, the designers made the challenging yet essential choice to start anew, creating a map on a 1/9 scale instead. This new version was showcased in the impressive 1.0 release of the mod.

In the latest update 1.0.1.1 of Project Japan, you’ll be pleasantly surprised! The map is expansive and meticulously crafted. Numerous new elements, including buildings, vehicles, and road signs, have been added. Not only has the gameplay been revamped to align with Japanese driving regulations (such as left-hand traffic), but it also takes into account local economic conditions. There are numerous secrets to uncover as well – keep an eye out for hidden viewpoints and spots for capturing photos!
