Ethan Hawke is known as a fantastic actor in serious roles, but he’s also appeared in horror movies. Currently, one of his scariest performances is gaining popularity across various streaming services.
According to FlixPatrol, Black Phone 2 is quickly becoming popular on streaming services. It reached number one on Peacock’s list of top movies in the US just one day after becoming available there. The film also appears in the top ten movie charts on Amazon and Apple TV in fifteen countries.
Scott Derrickson directed Black Phone 2, again working with writer C. Robert Cargill. The film is based on a short story by Joe Hill, just like the first Black Phone movie from 2021. Mason Thames and Madeleine McGraw return as Finney and Gwen, and Ethan Hawke reprises his role as the serial killer, the Grabber – even though his character died in the previous film.
The first film showed Finney battling the Grabber in the real world, but Black Phone 2 sees the killer haunting a new group of young heroes from beyond the grave. Throughout the movie, Finney, Gwen (Robin’s brother from the original film), and a few others team up to discover how the Grabber became a killer and finally stop him.
In addition to the main actors, Black Phone 2 brings back Jeremy Davis as Finney and Gwen’s father, Terrence, and James Ransone as Max, the Grabber’s brother. Demián Bichir, Arianna Rivas, Maev Beaty, Graham Abbey, and Anna Lore also join the cast of Black Phone 2.
What Did Critics and Audiences Think of Black Phone 2

Critics also liked the film, and it received several award nominations, including three from the Astra Awards, one Astra Creative Award nomination, and a Hollywood Music in Media Award nomination for its original score in the horror/thriller category.
Currently, Black Phone 2 has a 71% “Certified Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 192 reviews from critics. Viewers seem to enjoy it even more, giving it an 83% score based on over 2,500 reviews.
Currently, The Black Phone has a “Certified Fresh” rating of 81% based on 272 reviews from critics. Audiences have given it an 88% score, based on over 5,000 reviews.
It’s still uncertain if the movie’s success will lead to a sequel. The filmmakers have been hesitant when asked about it, with one even questioning if audiences would even want another film, saying, “I don’t know.”
