The 2025 film Marty Supreme is a huge box office success. Directed by Josh Safdie, the A24 movie stars Timothée Chalamet – known from Call Me By Your Name – as Marty Mauser, a ping pong player determined to become a champion. Chalamet recently won a Golden Globe for his performance, his first win after being nominated five times, and the film received three nominations overall.
According to Deadline, Marty Supreme is expected to make $7 million domestically over the Martin Luther King Jr. Day weekend. This would bring the film’s total domestic earnings to $81.1 million after five weeks in theaters, including four weeks in wide release.
As Marty Supreme approaches $80 million in total earnings, it’s predicted to reach $77.1 million domestically by the end of Saturday. This is noteworthy because it will then surpass the $77.1 million earned by the 2022 Best Picture winner, Everything Everywhere All At Once, making it A24’s highest-grossing film ever in the U.S.
Despite breaking box office records, Marty Supreme cost a reported $70 million to make – making it A24’s most expensive film to date. Because of this high cost, the movie likely needs to earn around $175 million in theaters just to cover its production costs.
The movie doesn’t have to make a profit to still be a good investment for the company. Even though the Academy Awards nominations aren’t out yet, the film is currently performing well during awards season, making it likely that Timothée Chalamet will be nominated for Best Actor – and potentially for other awards as well.
This would significantly boost A24’s reputation, especially if Timothée Chalamet wins his first Oscar for Marty Supreme. His Golden Globes performance suggests an Oscar win is very possible. Here’s a look at how his previous nominated films have fared at both the Golden Globes and the Academy Awards:
| Title | Golden Globe | Academy Award |
|---|---|---|
| Call Me By Your Name (2017) | Nominee | Nominee |
| Beautiful Boy (2018) | Nominee | N/A |
| Wonka (2023) | Nominee | N/A |
| A Complete Unknown (2024) | Nominee | Nominee |
| Marty Supreme (2025) | Winner | TBD |
If the film Marty Supreme wins Timothée Chalamet his first Oscar, it will become a major focus of the awards season – and it’s already generating a lot of buzz. This kind of attention would likely be far more valuable to A24 than simply earning a few extra million dollars in ticket sales.
