ESPN Flagship Streamer Will Include ESPN+

As a movie buff with a lifelong passion for sports and a knack for keeping my fingers on the pulse of the entertainment industry, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement over ESPN’s upcoming direct-to-consumer streaming service. It’s like watching the final moments of a nail-biting game, with each announcement bringing us closer to the climax.

By 2025, ESPN’s self-standing streaming platform is set to debut, eliminating the need for a traditional pay-TV subscription. This service will offer the complete content library of ESPN+ as stated by ESPN Chairman Jimmy Pitaro.

At the USC Next Level Sports Conference, held in the vibrant city of Los Angeles on Thursday, I had the privilege to hear Pitaro make an official announcement from the stage of the Intuit Dome.

It’s not shocking that the new setup includes ESPN+ being part of what ESPN refers to as ESPN Flagship. It would have been unusual if ESPN had decided to keep ESPN+ as a standalone, paid service instead. However, the cost for ESPN Flagship has yet to be disclosed.

In 2025, ESPN’s primary direct-to-consumer service is set to launch. This service will offer all the live sports programming currently airing on ESPN’s networks, along with extra events and content from ESPN+. The service is also expected to be seamlessly connected with ESPN Fantasy, offering betting features within its app, as well as statistics, merchandise, commerce options, personalized versions of “SportsCenter” using AI, and various other user-centric features.

In simpler terms, the personalized edition of “SportsCenter” will deliver content tailored to your preferred sports teams or games, as revealed by Disney CEO Bob Iger at a financial conference earlier this year. So, when you tune in to ESPN for “SportsCenter,” he said, it should recognize that you’re a fan of the Knicks (and similar preferences), and they’re actively developing this feature.

Starting October 17th, ESPN+ will cost $11.99 per month or $119.99 annually following a price increase. This standalone service offers access to countless live events and archives, such as UFC Fight Nights and pay-per-view events, games from the NHL, MLB, PGA Tour, Grand Slam tennis tournaments, college sports spanning 20 conferences, and soccer matches including LaLiga, FA Cup, Bundesliga, Major League Soccer, and more.

In December, Disney plans to debut an ESPN section on Disney+, offering streaming users a chance to explore sports content that falls under both Disney’s branded entertainment and general entertainment categories, as per the company’s statement.
