ESO's Update 44 Makes Changes To Battlegrounds, Tutorial Quest, Adds New Grimoire & Companions

As a seasoned Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) player with countless hours spent exploring the vast lands of Tamriel, I eagerly await the arrival of Update 44. The shift in PvP mode from three-sided to two-sided format, along with the addition of seven new maps, promises a fresh and exhilarating experience that has me itching to get back into the fray.

During a livestream hosted by ZeniMax Online Studios on Bethesda’s Twitch channel on September 10, 2024, several new features and modifications for The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) were unveiled in the upcoming update. This event showcased significant as well as minor enhancements and adjustments expected in the game, such as alterations to Player versus Player (PvP), the impending Fallen Leaves of West Weald event, and more.

In their most recent developer blog, they’ve provided a comprehensive overview of what to expect in Update 44, covering balance adjustments, new in-game elements, and essential Quality-of-Life enhancements. This update is set to roll out on October 28th, 2024 for PC and Mac users, whereas console gamers will have to wait until November 13th, 2024 to get their hands on it.

In ESO’s (Elder Scrolls Online) Update 44, you can expect some major updates to key aspects, which will be accessible on both consoles and PCs. Among these changes is a revision to the PvP (Player versus Player) mode Battlegrounds. As per the developer’s announcement, this update will transform Battlegrounds from a three-team format into a two-team format, offering two match types: 4vs4 and 8vs8. Starting with Update 44, these formats will be the ones available for gameplay.

Additionally, you’ll notice that the 4v4v4 match type is being removed from queues, but the developer hinted it could reappear during special events. To align with the updates in Battlegrounds mode, seven fresh maps have been added for players to compete on, earning honor and glory throughout Tamriel.

In this update, the main storyline of the game undergoes a significant shift. The “Soul Shriven in Coldharbour” mission returns as the primary tutorial, replacing the previous one, “Gates of Adamant”. There are several tweaks to the original “Gates of Adamant” quest, such as reorganizing the questline flow, increasing weapon drops, improving the onboarding process for game mechanics and systems, optimizing combat mechanics, and adding additional quest elements.

As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that some exciting updates are on the horizon for Elder Scrolls Online (ESO). Soon, you’ll get to meet two new Companions: Tanlorin, the wise High Elf, and Zerith-var, the formidable Khajiit warrior. Upon your return to Tamriel, each of these characters will greet you with their own introduction quests. You can find Tanlorin in Auridon, while tracking down the elusive Zerith-var falls within the Reaper’s March zone. Further details about their exact locations and quest walkthrough will be provided in separate guides to help make your adventure even smoother.

I’m thrilled to share that in this upcoming update, we’ll be introducing a fresh Grimoire for our Scribing system! More information about it will be revealed soon. The Banner Bearer Grimoire hails from the Support Skill Line and empowers players to take the lead in combat by placing a banner on their backs. This action grants an Area of Effect (AoE) buff to party members’ abilities that align with their chosen Focus, enhancing our battle strategies!

In an upgrade, the developer has incorporated advanced functionality for nine distinct Grimoires, including 14 additional Focus Scripts. These new features offer a range of benefits, from increased damage potential to valuable utility options. A comprehensive breakdown of these changes, enhancements, and additions will be provided once the Public Test Server (PTS) patch notes are made available in the forthcoming weeks. At that time, our Patch Notes support page will be updated to provide details on the upcoming content for Update 44.
