ESL Overturns HEROIC Win, TeSeS Apologizes For Snap Tap Usage

As a long-time CS:GO fan who has seen my fair share of upsets and controversies, I must say that the latest incident at ESL Pro League Season 20 leaves me both intrigued and disappointed. On one hand, it’s fascinating to witness how technology, in this case, Razer’s Snap Tap, can subtly influence the outcome of high-stakes matches. On the other hand, it’s disheartening to see a team like HEROIC, who were playing exceptionally well, being handed an unfortunate loss due to an unintentional oversight.

Recently, Valve has firmly rejected the use of automation scripts and third-party applications like Razer’s Snap Tap and Wooting’s SOCD in competitive Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) esports tournaments, such as those organized by BLAST and ESL. This rule was previously implemented during the ESL Pro League Season 20.

In the initial clashes of Group A during ESL Pro League Season 20, HEROIC faced off against NIP in a best-of-three competition. HEROIC claimed victory on the first map, Ancient, with a score of 13-10; however, their triumph was subsequently reversed by ESL, as announced on Twitter (X).

Despite the setback, HEROIC handled the defeat gracefully and humorously predicted a unique scenario for the next BO3 match. However, it was NIP who eventually won Nuke 13-7, followed by a 13-6 victory on Vertigo, wrapping up the series. Had it not been for the infraction involving Snap Tap, HEROIC would have advanced to face NAVI in the upper bracket of Group A at ESL Pro League Season 20.

It turns out the player who used Snap Tap was Danish entry fragger René “TeSeS” Madsen, who posted an apology on X, noting that he didn’t even realize it was active again and that it was not intentional in any way:

Regrettably, I inadvertently used a feature that was previously prohibited by Valve. I had deactivated it long ago, but I apparently missed re-enabling the setting during the game. I deeply apologize for this oversight as it let my team down and I’m extremely disappointed with myself. My apologies for any inconvenience caused.

heroic is set to battle Lynn Vision in the central round of Group A during ESL Pro League Season 20. Although they suffered a defeat against NIP, the team demonstrated significant improvement in their performance, which brings positive vibes to their supporters.
