Among the captivating and influential groups within this universe, the Namekians stand out due to their significant involvement in some of the franchise’s cherished storylines. However, despite their substantial impact on the lore, Namekians appear infrequently in the primary narrative, with only a few named ones actively participating in most sagas.

In the majority of instances where multiple Namekians appear, it is usually just Piccolo who actively takes part in the narrative, while other Namekians serve mainly to provide backstory and are safeguarded by the Z-Fighters. There is a wealth of Namekian history that remains underexplored or underutilized, and it’s high time for Dragon Ball to introduce some of its non-canonical Namekians into the main storyline so they can finally receive the attention and focus they deserve.

In the fourth Dragon Ball Z movie titled “Dragon Ball Z: Lord Slug”, we first encounter this villain. The Japanese version of the film reveals that Lord Slug originated as a Namekian on Planet Namek. When the devastating event struck Namek, Lord Slug was transported to Planet Slug in order to survive. Contrastingly, the Funimation dub suggests that Lord Slug resided on Namek prior to the catastrophic event. As he dwelled there, he and other Namekians discovered a way to access an additional consciousness, thereby transforming into Super Namekians. This transformation, however, fueled their insatiable desire for power, eventually leading to their expulsion from Planet Namek.

Throughout the film, Lord Slug launches an attack on Earth with the intention of transforming it into his new spaceship, Planet Cruiser. Initially, Earth’s defenders are able to fend him off, but they quickly realize that Lord Slug is stronger than they initially thought. Not only does he possess immense physical power, but he also has a vast array of attacks fueled by Ki. Moreover, he can expand to monstrous sizes, making it impossible for anything to withstand his onslaught.

Lord Slug stands out among Dragon Ball Z movie antagonists due to his distinctive ability of converting planets into spaceships, offering a fresh perspective on traditional villain roles. With his potential for modern adaptation in Dragon Ball, especially considering Goku’s encounters with cosmic adversaries like the Heeters and Galactic Bandit Brigade in Dragon Ball Super, it seems fitting to establish Lord Slug as a genuine antagonist.

The Idea of a Demonic Namekian Has Lots of Potential

In this series, the creators have blended the demonic past of the Namekians from the original Dragon Ball with their space origin from Dragon Ball Z. They achieved this by suggesting that the Namekians originally dwelt in the Demon Realm and migrated to our world after Super Majin Rymus constructed the multiple universes within the Dragon Ball multiverse. However, despite the immense implications of this disclosure, the series DAIMA features only one Namekian from the Demon Realm, an elderly character named Neva.

Pondering how a Namekian might behave if they’d never left the Demon Realm? The 2016 game for Nintendo 3DS, Dragon Ball Fusions, offers a hint with its character Ghiro. In this game, Ghiro is a Namekian who ventured into the Demon Realm and, as a result, became evil and learned to fight like demons by observing the realm’s inhabitants. This transformation is evident in Ghiro’s appearance, which includes a belt similar to Dabura’s and glowing blue eyes, making him appear more sinister than typical Namekians. As such, Ghiro could present an intriguing contrast to Piccolo, providing fans with a glimpse of what might have transpired if the Namekians had remained in the Demon Realm instead.

Some of these intriguing beings bear reptilian-inspired physical traits, setting them apart from the typical Namekians we see in the Dragon Ball universe. What makes them truly captivating is their distinct armor and weaponry, which elevates their presence above the generic Namekians found in the anime and manga.

Among these extraordinary individuals, Tanta stands out as a true powerhouse! His imposing armored fist not only makes him instantly recognizable but also exudes an aura of menace that leaves no doubt about his formidable abilities.

Apart from Tanta, there are some intriguing attack methods he possesses. By channeling Ki into his armored fist, he can deliver an immense blow that generates a colossal shockwave, knocking anyone within proximity off balance. Additionally, he has the ability to divide himself into two, engaging in a coordinated assault against opponents (as each duplicate boasts distinct skills). This tactic allows him to swiftly reverse the course of a battle and overpower adversaries who appear stronger than Tanta. Given his exceptional combat techniques, Tanta seems an ideal choice for integration into the main storyline, as it presents opportunities for visually captivating fight scenes.

Why Should Dr. Gero Stop With Humans?

From the perspective of a curious observer, I often ponder about what might transpire if Dr. Gero’s technology were to intertwine with one of the diverse alien lifeforms residing in the Dragon Ball universe. Fortunately, Dragon Ball Fusions offers fans an intriguing peek into this possibility, showcasing Android 76. Born from Dr. Gero’s villainous data archive, Android 76 deviates from the norm by utilizing Namekian cells as its foundation instead of human ones. This unique composition gives Android 76 a resemblance to a Namekian variant of Android 16, primarily due to their shared torso design.

In an unusual twist, Android 76 – a product of Gero’s inventions – exhibits a distinctly Namekian-like demeanor. Players will soon discover that beneath this peculiar exterior lies a surprisingly amiable and kind-hearted character. This raises intriguing questions about the inner workings of Dr. Gero’s technology. Regrettably, much like other characters from Dragon Ball Fusion‘s Timespace Rift, Android 76 receives minimal screen time, leaving his story largely untold.

Including Android 76 in the main storyline could enrich the Dragon Ball universe significantly, considering Dr. Hedo’s continuation of his grandfather Dr. Gero’s Android research as depicted in “Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero”. This development opens up possibilities for the writers to delve deeper into the mechanics of Androids and present fresh adversaries for Goku to confront, potentially even a Namekian Android.

A Dark Take on Piccolo Makes for a Fascinating “What If?”

In “A Plan in Motion! The Mightiest Warriors From Across Space-Time Assemble!” (41st episode of Super Dragon Ball Heroes) and “End of Experiment” (15th chapter of Super Dragon Ball Heroes: Big Bang Mission!!!), a new character named The Namekian of Black makes his appearance. This enigmatic warrior is one of Aeos’ Black Warriors, responsible for supervising the Super Space-Time Tournament and assisting Aeos in choosing which timeline will be set as the true history, while erasing others. Interestingly, The Namekian of Black is an alternative version of Piccolo from a universe where he and Goku survived, allowing the cosmic despot to wipe out everyone except Piccolo.

This interpretation of Piccolo is intriguing due to the fact that he aligns with Aeos but openly displays concern for Gohan across all forms. For instance, when the primary timeline’s Gohan struggles against Shroom, the character from Black steps in to provide him with fighting advice. Moreover, this version of Piccolo is later seen offering training to the Future Warrior Gohan in Black, indicating a richness and complexity in his character. Establishing this version of Piccolo as canon would add an engaging layer to the storyline.
