In the recently released teaser for the upcoming movie, there aren’t many moments featuring the Mutadons, yet their presence is undeniably chilling as they seem to terrorize the characters in an exhilarating nighttime chase. The scene showcases several characters seeking refuge in a building as Scarlett Johansson’s character, Zora Bennet, strategically leads at least one creature away from the group. In essence, the Mutadons resemble the iconic raptors from the Jurassic Park series, but they possess a unique trait – wings. Just like their predecessors, raptors have always been among the scariest dinosaurs in the films, and it appears that will continue to be true in Jurassic World Rebirth. In the movie “Jurassic World Rebirth,” the Mutadons’ design stands out, but they’re not the franchise’s first winged raptors. The Pyroraptor from “Jurassic World Dominion” also sported feathered wings. However, unlike the Mutadons, the Pyroraptor wasn’t capable of true flight. It’s the ability to fly that sets the Mutadons apart, and it’s not entirely implausible given that some real-life raptor species were known for their flying abilities.
According to Slate’s report, a fossil of a flying raptor named Changyuraptor was unearthed in the year 2014. This discovery left paleontologists astounded when it came to light. The fossil that Luis Chiappe and his team excavated and studied in 2014 was reportedly around four feet long and weighed approximately nine pounds.
This find supports the idea that prehistoric raptors could fly. Although it took millennia to unearth this fossil, it verifies that flying raptors did indeed exist in the Prehistoric Era. It’s important to mention that the Mutadons depicted in the Jurassic World Rebirth trailer are much larger than the Changyuraptor fossil discovered. Consequently, the Mutadons of Jurassic World Rebirth may not resemble any creature that ever inhabited our world.
