The television series titled “Young Sheldon” serves as a prequel to “The Big Bang Theory“. It focuses on 9-year-old Sheldon Cooper (Iain Armitage) in his daily life in Texas with his family. Despite the ordinary nature of his existence, young Sheldon grapples with challenges related to social acceptance due to his exceptional abilities. The series is set in the late 1980s and early 1990s and chronicles young Sheldon’s journey of learning, growth, and self-discovery – a journey that encompasses understanding himself, society, and how they perceive him.
After running for a span of seven seasons, it was time for the journey with Young Sheldon to conclude, yet there remains an abundance of fantastic episodes to rewatch. Out of the 141 episodes that were produced, here are some of the top-tier episodes from Young Sheldon.

“A Brisket, Voodoo, and Cannonball Run”
Season 1, Episode 7
The story revolves around a bitter family dispute over a highly classified barbecue brisket recipe, primarily between George Sr. and Meemaw. The disagreement turns out to be far more profound than it initially appears, causing everyone to gather in an attempt to settle the matter. Regrettably, they’re unable to find a resolution. As the feud intensifies, Meemaw deceives him with a false recipe that sends him on a fruitless quest for the perfect brisket. Upon learning the truth, George becomes enraged and considers barring her from their home.
Later on, Sheldon steps in and mentions that Meemaw shared the recipe with him when he was just 23 months old. He decides to use this knowledge as a tool against them, challenging them to recreate it first before he discloses it. Needless to say, he manages to win their little culinary contest. The episode is entertaining and features a casual rivalry among the characters that many viewers can relate to, adding a delightful touch to the overall viewing experience as they watch this friendly dispute unfold.

“Pasadena”
Season 3, Episode 16
Initiating his ambitious pursuit, Sheldon visits Caltech for the first time in his life. Simultaneously, at home, his parents carry out their parental responsibilities, demonstrating their competence to their kids. Despite George Sr.’s excellent fathering skills, Mary feels compelled to strive harder to be an exceptional stepmother.
In my film enthusiast perspective, as I watched the unfolding scene, it was Sheldon’s departure for college that set off a ripple of changes among the other children at home. Their parents, ever-dedicated, were striving harder than ever to be the best parents they could be. This episode resonated with me not just because of the heartwarming family love on display, but also due to its poignant depiction of a bond that transcended blood ties.

“Potato Salad, a Broomstick, and Dad’s Whiskey”
Season 1, Episode 14
Mary takes on a new position as a church secretary, which means she’s away more often than before. As a result, this is the first time that Sheldon and Missy find themselves at home unsupervised. Although Sheldon exhibits extraordinary intelligence for his age, he is still just a child. So, being left alone with his young sister serves as a profound learning experience for him.
As a fan, I must say this episode truly captures the essence of growing up. I’ve found myself stepping into a role with greater responsibilities, just like Mary, while Sheldon and Missy are venturing into uncharted territories of independence. It’s an exciting yet nerve-wracking journey for all of us as we navigate through new experiences. We stumble here and there, making mistakes along the way, but each error brings with it valuable lessons to help us grow stronger.

“Vanilla Ice Cream, Gentleman Callers, and a Dinette Set”
Season 1, Episode 22
Meemaw finds herself in a romantic situation with two gentlemen, trying to choose the one who aligns best with her, leading to disagreements among the trio, whether it’s through friendly competition, reconciliation using household items, or secretive negotiations.
In the midst of all the commotion, Sheldon steps in once more, providing Meemaw with an escape plan. He proposes a deal among the three of them which has been accepted by everyone. This concept inspires young Sheldon to envision such an arrangement in his future life – a pact with his spouse, family, and offspring. The episode leaves us hanging, but it subtly suggests that Sheldon may one day have children, sparking our anticipation for more episodes.

“Graduation”
Season 4, Episode 1
In a similar vein to many high school graduates, Sheldon finds college daunting due to his sense of unpreparedness. Yet, the experience is both intimidating and relatable for him. The climax of the episode arrives when Sheldon delivers an emotional valedictory speech, during which he acknowledges his sister’s significant role in his life. This heartfelt address serves as a testament to the depth and importance of their bond.
The season’s fresh opener offers an emotional journey. Not only does Sheldon graduate from high school, but there’s also a subplot involving Meemaw and her former beau, Dale Ballard. He seeks reconciliation with her, expressing genuine remorse for past mistakes to foster a healthier relationship. The episode is brimming with heartwarming scenes that may leave viewers shedding a few tears.
12
“A Nuclear Reactor and a Boy Called Lovely”
Season 2, Episode 13
In a nod to a true-life incident, the young prodigy Sheldon endeavors to construct a nuclear reactor. This act underscores his vast abilities, understanding, and talent that could revolutionize the world according to his unique vision. Yet, as a minor, he requires an adult present during his experiments. It is here where Meemaw steps in to assist him.
At the cocktail party, while Sheldon was engrossed in his own activities, Dr. Linkletter, the colleague of his mentor, began to flirt with Meemaw. Some found this amusing, while others were less approving. This playful scene effectively portrays Sheldon’s character, both as a young boy and as a genius.
11
“An Eagle Feather, a String Bean, and an Eskimo”
Season 1, Episode 10
In this episode, Sheldon’s departure for a school in Dallas serves as a reminder of his significant presence in the lives of his family. The experience evokes a range of feelings from them, including joy, worry, and anticipation.
In his unexpected comeback, I found myself marveling at the profound impact Sheldon had on our family dynamic. His absence had unveiled just how significant he was to us, and this became crystal clear upon his return. My sister, Missy, in particular, was taken aback by the heartfelt gesture he brought for her – a unique trio of an eagle feather, a string bean, and an Eskimo trinket.
As it turned out, their bond only grew stronger while they were apart, each seemingly forever etched in the other’s thoughts. The return home not only reaffirmed our family ties but also ignited a newfound appreciation for one another that has fortified our bond.
10
“New Home and a Traditional Texas Torture”
Season 7, Episode 12
Following George Sr.’s job offer as a college coach in Houston, which would provide more financial security for the family, Mary and Missy wholeheartedly back his decision. Meanwhile, Sheldon grapples with the idea of relocating, planning to head to California for Caltech. However, Sheldon’s reservations become insignificant when it is tragically disclosed that George Sr. has suffered a fatal heart attack, leaving the family shattered and clinging to one another as they work through the shocking news and shared sorrow.
In this latest installment of “Young Sheldon”, fans found themselves deeply affected as a significant character and family patriarch passed away. This unfortunate event not only shook the entire family but also occurred during a period of significant change for each member. Despite the heavy subject matter, the episode beautifully demonstrated the show’s exceptional writing skills by skillfully blending humor with poignancy, addressing profound emotions while still preserving the Young Sheldon charm that viewers have grown to appreciate.

“A Computer, a Plastic Pony, and a Case of Beer”
Season 1, Episode 12
As a film enthusiast, I find myself caught in the midst of a heated discussion between my folks about our current financial situation. The crux of this debate unfolds when I, eager for academic success and personal growth, humbly ask for a computer to aid me in my studies and learning endeavors. Regrettably, my parents seem reluctant to make this wish a reality due to the state of our family’s finances.
In an effort to ease the tension between the parents, Meemaw attempts to lighten the atmosphere by conversing with a mouse, resulting in one of the most humorous moments in the series. However, their arguments persist, yet it’s clear that they both care deeply for Sheldon and want to encourage his pursuits. Fortunately, they manage to find a compromise, ensuring everyone’s desires are met.

“A Patch, a Modem, and a Zantac”
Season 1, Episode 6
It could be said that there’s nothing more disrespectful to someone of great intellect than having their work dismissed by others. In this case, a representative from NASA does exactly that to Sheldon, causing him to feel misunderstood. This misconception fuels Sheldon’s determination to show the NASA representative that his assumptions are incorrect.
In times when external threats confront Sheldon, his family is consistently on hand to lift his spirits, as effectively demonstrated in this episode. To add to the delight, the episode concludes with an unexpected visitor perfectly suited to the space-themed narrative – Elon Musk.
