The popular web browser, Brave, has partnered with Unstoppable Domains and Polygon to debut their unique top-level domain extension, ‘.brave’, as the first major browser to do so on the blockchain.
In a public statement, the web browser company revealed that their latest on-chain domain service would soon be accessible to over 85 million monthly users. Their goal is to integrate these domains with the Brave Wallet for cryptocurrency transactions and include them in version 1.81 of the main browser, which will initially appear in Nightly builds and is planned for release on August 5, 2025.
In simple terms, Brave (BAT) becomes the pioneer web browser by integrating blockchain-based top-level domain names (TLDs). This innovation empowers users to create their unique domains as non-interchangeable tokens on the Polygon (POL) network. This ownership comes without any renewal fees.
In simpler terms, these new digital spaces enable users to effortlessly manage their online identity in the crypto world. Instead of using complex cryptocurrency wallet addresses, they can now use easy-to-remember, human-readable names for sending and receiving cryptos.
As stated in the announcement, these domains can be accessed through numerous networks including Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Solana (SOL), Binance Smart Chain (BASE), and Harmony (S) among others.
Possessing an exclusive .brave domain grants users the ability to deploy decentralized websites using the InterPlanetary File System (IPFS). These sites can be conveniently navigated via a web browser without encountering any hosting charges.
As the CTO and co-founder, Brian Bondy, describes it, the browser’s initial exploration of on-chain TLDs goes beyond just a domain name. It provides users with a customizable identity layer that is inherently connected to the broader ecosystem, offering them a unique and native presence within it.
“Our mission is to put privacy, ownership, and control back in the hands of users,” said Bondy.
Currently, the web browser company and Unstoppable Domains are investigating the opportunity to secure an ICANN general top-level domain registration for 2026. Obtaining an ICANN gTLD registration would enable .brave domains to operate smoothly within both conventional Web2 and decentralized Web3 platforms.
According to earlier reports from crypto.news, the company has just started supporting Cardano (ADA) in their digital wallet, thanks to a recent partnership with Input | Output. This collaboration intends to provide wallet users with the ability to transfer, receive, and exchange ADA tokens directly within the wallet itself.
Apart from its functionality, this web3 wallet additionally provides governance assistance for ADA owners, allowing them direct access to these capabilities right from their web browser wallet.
