Barnett appeared Friday morning as the hour’s current anchor, Anne-Marie Green, bid farewell. She is moving to “48 Hours.” “I know the show is in good hands,” Green told him. “I hope to bring that essence of curiosity and heart that you bring to the table,” he said, noting that coverage on his first day, October 7, would nod to the anniversary of Hamas’ attacks on Israel.

Since 2016, Barnett has been part of CBS News where he’s handled roles such as a weekend White House correspondent and a transportation reporter. He’s also stepped in on shows like “CBS Mornings,” “CBS Saturday Morning,” and the “CBS Weekend News.” In his tenure, he’s delved into topics related to technology, with documentary features exploring cryptocurrency mining and the expansion of e-sports among them. Barnett has anchored several CBS News Special Reports from New York and Washington D.C., and has been reporting on the recent court trial of former President Donald Trump for CBS 24/7.
