Epic Plans To Launch Second Free Games Program, This Time For Mobile Devices

As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement at Epic’s latest moves! Having witnessed the evolution of gaming from the humble 8-bit days to today’s high-resolution marvels, it’s heartening to see companies like Epic pushing boundaries and challenging the status quo.

Epic outlines strategies to entice developers to its newly unveiled mobile marketplace. To lure mobile game creators, they plan to offer self-publishing resources, a no-cost games initiative, and lower commission rates for developers utilizing the Unreal Engine in their game creation process.

During the Unreal Fest Seattle event, Epic Games Store’s general manager Steve Allison announced that they will introduce their first set of third-party applications during the holiday season. He estimates that between 10 to 50 of these apps could be ready, with the main focus being on implementing a payment solution. This might cause some apps to become available in the following months.

By the year’s end, Epic is set to debut a complimentary mobile gaming platform, which includes social elements, cross-platform compatibility, and exciting features for both gamers and creators. As Allison put it, “We’re planning to introduce our free games program and third-party apps in Q4. This launch will bring some fantastic content for players that will also benefit developers by helping us expand rapidly.

At present, Epic Games provides weekly free games through their Epic Games Store, a service they’ve been managing for quite some time. They’ve also frequently spoken out against Google and Apple, expressing concerns about their business tactics. Epic has ambitions to create and distribute its own app store on iOS, which would bypass Apple’s 30% platform fee; however, this plan was temporarily halted when Apple terminated their developer account. Yet, Epic made a comeback in Europe during August.

Due to the recent regulations set by the European Union and the implementation of the Digital Markets Act, Epic has made its app available for download on iPhones across the EU and globally on Android devices.
