Danny Duran, a well-regarded publicist in the entertainment industry for over two and a half decades and founder of the small firm ddPR, passed away on Wednesday following an eight-month struggle with cancer. He was 58 years old.
Initially, Duran kick-started his professional journey at Walt Disney Studios. Later on, he became a part of Sandra Bullock’s production company, Fortis Films. Working under Brigid Walsh, Duran managed public relations for Bullock, along with other notable talents such as Eric Roberts, Bill Pullman, Chris McDonald, and Ron Livingston.
Back in the year 2000, I was instrumental in establishing ddPR. This venture took flight with Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment as our very first client. Over the years, my role played a significant part in guiding them through technological evolutions from VHS to DVD, and later to Blu-ray. Some of the iconic titles that were released during this period under my guidance included “The Lion King,” “Snow White,” and “The Little Mermaid.” What an incredible journey it has been to be a part of such timeless stories!
Over time, I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with a diverse array of film industry giants and acting talents, such as Roadside Attractions, Savannah Entertainment, Sony Pictures, Disney, Universal, Lionsgate, and many more. Additionally, I’ve been entrusted to manage the personal publicity for renowned actors like Jon Hamm and Beth Grant, earning a reputation for my unique, personal touch in my work.
As a fellow film enthusiast, I’ve had the immense pleasure of knowing Danny for more than two decades. His guidance through Hollywood’s public relations was nothing short of remarkable, always delivered with such kindness and subtle grace that it made the toughest challenges feel manageable. His eyes sparkled with warmth, and his smile was as sweet as a summer day. I can’t help but feel the deepest sorrow at this loss, not only for me, but for our entire community. My husband, Michael Chieffo, shares my sentiments. We are forever grateful for the joyous moments we shared with Danny, and will continue to cherish those memories. Our hearts will always hold a special place for him.
Danny was an unyielding advocate – for his clients, his convictions, and those who were lucky enough to cross paths with him,” stated Amelia McPartlon Rogers, Vice President of Content Strategy and Integration Marketing at Lionsgate Motion Picture Group. “His faith in me during the early stages of my career paved the way for my success, and I will always be thankful for his support and enduring friendship.”

Speaking as someone who deeply admired and learned from Danny, I, Brandy Fons, CEO of Fons, PR Inc., share that he was not just a colleague, but a cherished friend and an immense inspiration in the publicity realm. Our bond grew stronger during our collaborative years at The Walt Disney Studios, transforming into a profound friendship that touched many aspects of my life and career. Danny was present for significant moments in my journey, and he was admired and adored by the press, fellow publicists, and studios alike. His generous and kind-hearted nature will be deeply missed.
