Emma Samms Returns to ‘General Hospital’ as Holly (EXCLUSIVE)

As a long-time fan of “General Hospital” and someone who has fondly remembered Emma Samms‘ character, Holly Sutton, I am thrilled to hear about her upcoming return to Port Charles. Holly’s history with the show is rich and complex, filled with love, loss, and intrigue.

As a movie buff, I’m excited to share that I’ll be seeing more of Emma Samms on “General Hospital” starting early September! Holly Sutton, a beloved character played by Emma, is set to make a comeback to the ABC soap.

In the year 2023, Holly, Anna (played by Finola Hughes), and Scott (Kin Shriner) came together to prevent Victor Cassadine (Charles Shaughnessy) from initiating a biological disaster that would eliminate nearly 80% of Earth’s inhabitants. After accomplishing this vital mission, Holly chose to go back to Australia since her efforts to revive her relationship with Robert (Tristan Rogers) proved unsuccessful.

As a long-time fan of General Hospital (GH), I’m thrilled to pieces about the recent news that Holly and Lucky Spencer, portrayed by Kimberly McCullough and Jonathan Jackson respectively, are making their comeback to the show. Their return adds an extra layer of excitement to an already captivating storyline. The fact that this is happening alongside the return of other beloved characters like Rick Hearst as Ric Lansing, after an eight-year absence, just makes it all the more special.

In July 1982, when Samms entered the “General Hospital” ensemble, the show was experiencing great success following Luke and Laura’s groundbreaking years. The introduction of Holly’s character occurred during this peak period. One fateful evening in the woods, Holly encountered Luke Spencer (Anthony Geary), who was grieving after Laura had mysteriously vanished. In an unusual twist for a soap opera, they met under unconventional circumstances – skinny dipping – and shared an unexpected night of passion. Despite her deceitful oil scheme, Luke remained skeptical of Holly’s true intentions and instead fell deeply in love with her.

As someone who has been an avid fan of daytime soap operas for decades, I can tell you that Luke and Holly’s storyline was a classic example of twists and turns that keep viewers hooked. When Luke went missing and was presumed dead, it was a heart-wrenching moment for the audience, especially for Holly who was left to deal with the grief. But just as we were all adjusting to this new reality, a surprise was in store: Holly discovered she was pregnant!

With Luke apparently deceased and Robert still living (hopefully for the long term, as of September), will they have another heartwarming encounter, their former romantic duo? Keep an eye out for updates.

More recently, Samms has been vocal about her ongoing struggle with long-term COVID-19 symptoms, which she developed in March 2020 and have kept her confined at home in England. In a blog entry published this year, Samms expressed her confusion when people ask her how she’s feeling.

“Should I simply express ‘thanks,’ or should I disclose my chest pain, tinnitus, and need to read lips? She continued to share about the dizziness, nausea, a heart weakened by myocarditis, and the persistent microvascular disease in her lungs.”

“She expressed, ‘My dear husband Simon is not only incredibly helpful in managing our home, but also possesses a remarkable ability to provide comforting words. He knows just what to say to lift my spirits: “You may be feeling down, but you still look beautiful to me.” How fortunate I am!'”
