As a long-time fan and admirer of Emiru’s captivating streams, I find myself wholeheartedly echoing her sentiments regarding the Streamer Awards nominations this year. It feels like a strange oversight that a streamer as popular, talented, and influential as Emiru would be overlooked in the Sapphire Award category, while simultaneously being nominated for the prestigious Streamer of the Year award.
Streamer Emiru announces her decision not to attend this year’s QTCinderella’s Streamer Awards, even though she has been nominated in two categories: Streamer of the Year and Best Just Chatting Streamer.
On November 11th, popular Twitch personality QTCinderella unveiled the candidates for the 2024 Streamer Awards, an annual ceremony she arranges to honor the top talents and rising stars in the realm of online entertainment.
2021 saw the acclaimed streamer Emiru, who is part of OTK and well-known for her impressive cosplay skills, receive nominations for not just one, but two awards. One of these prestigious recognitions was for the title of Streamer of the Year.
To be honest, it felt like a letdown when I noticed I wasn’t among those nominated for the Sapphire Award, a category dedicated to women and other marginalized gamer streams like mine.
During her November 17th live stream, she shared that she’s been nominated for Streamer of the Year. It seems quite amusing to her that although she’s featured in all the major categories, she’s not listed under ‘Women’ category,” or simply, “She mentioned during her November 17th stream that she’s nominated for Streamer of the Year. She found it intriguing that while she’s included in all significant categories, she’s not categorized as a ‘Woman’.
It’s puzzling to me as to why this happened. I find it quite unusual, don’t you? Oh well, I won’t be attending… Despite many people questioning how Emi was named Streamer of the Year and a Just Chatting Streamer, yet not in the female streamer category.
In the yearly rankings, Emiru has consistently been among the leading female streamers on the internet, as evidenced by her 5th place position (excluding VTubers) on StreamsCharts in October 2024, with a total of 219 hours and 50 minutes watched during Q3 2024.
2022 saw Emiru being put forward for the title of Best League of Legends Streamer, an award that ultimately went to Tyler1. However, in 2023, Emiru was not considered for the nomination at all.
Commentators seem to be supporting Emiru’s viewpoint, as one individual on Reddit expressed: “It’s reasonable for her to find it strange… The top female streamer for two consecutive years not being nominated for the Sapphire award, followed by being placed in the ‘Best Streamer’ category seems extremely unusual.
“It doesn’t make sense for her to get a SOTY nom but not a Sapphire one,” another said.
It’s strange that the most prominent female streamer wasn’t included in the ‘female streamer’ category,” someone contended.
Since the announcement of the nominees for the 2024 Streamer Awards in November, there’s been a lot of debate about the selections, as some viewers have criticized the process and expressed confusion as to why particular streamers made it onto the list.
On various social platforms, QTCinderella defended herself against such comments multiple times, emphasizing that the votes are primarily determined by fan consensus, while a lesser portion is influenced by a group of professionals within the industry.
