Emerald Fennell’s ‘Wuthering Heights’ Find Its Young Heathcliff and Cathy in ‘Adolescence’ Breakout Owen Cooper and ‘Matilda’ Stage Star Charlotte Mellington (EXCLUSIVE)

Filmmaker Emerald Fennell has chosen Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie to portray the younger versions of Heathcliff and Cathy, respectively, in her forthcoming big-budget remake of Emily Brontë’s “Wuthering Heights.

It’s clear that EbMaster recognizes that Owen Cooper, a British actor who has already garnered attention for his first appearance in Netflix’s limited series “Adolescence” before its premiere, will portray the teenage Heathcliff – a complex, tormented character known as a literary icon.

Simultaneously, Charlotte Mellington, fresh from her role as Lavender in the successful West End play “Matilda the Musical,” will portray Catherine Earnshaw, a teenager whose intense and troubled romance with Heathcliff concludes tragically. Additionally, Vy Nguyen has been added to the cast, taking on the part of the younger Nelly Dean, who is the primary storyteller in the original novel.

As a movie enthusiast, I can’t help but get excited about the highly anticipated production I’ve been following closely – the Wuthering Heights remake, acquired by Warner Bros. last year in an intense bidding war. In this upcoming movie, I have the privilege of stepping into the shoes of the older Heathcliff, while the talented Margot Robbie will portray the older Cathy and serve as a producer through her LuckyChap production company.

The role of the older Nelly Dean will be brought to life by the remarkable Hong Chau, while Shazad Latif takes on the character of Edgar Linton. Alison Oliver, who I had the pleasure of working with in Fennell’s last feature “Saltburn,” will play Isabella Linton in this project. I can hardly wait to see how it all unfolds on the big screen!

15-year-old Cooper finds himself embarking on a thrilling journey with “Wuthering Heights” as his debut feature, signifying an impressive foray into the world of acting. Even before stepping foot in a professional setting, Cooper had already caught the eye of director Philip Barantini during auditions. This was for the pivotal role in “Adolescence,” despite Cooper having no prior acting experience to his name.

In a powerful and emotionally charged four-part production, Cooper takes on the role of a 13-year-old suspect accused of murder. The narrative delves into knife crime, incel culture, and the impact of harmful masculinity and social media. Jack Thorne and Stephen Graham collaborated on the script for this series, which also features performances by Graham, Ashley Walters, Erin Doherty, and Faye Marsay. Similar to Barantini’s BAFTA-nominated thriller “Boiling Point,” each episode was filmed in a single continuous take.

On March 13th, the series “Adolescence” will debut on Netflix. As for “Wuthering Heights”, it’s set to be released by Warner Bros. on February 13th, 2026.
