Elle King Opens Up About ‘Toxic’ Relationship With Rob Schneider, Says Her Father Is ‘Just Not Nice’: ‘You’re Talking S— About Drag and Anti-Gay Rights…Get F—ed’

As a movie enthusiast who’s been around the block a few times, I can say that the tumultuous relationship between Elle King and her father, Rob Schneider, is as dramatic as some of the plotlines in their films – only this one’s real life.

In a recent chat on Bunnie XO’s “Dumb Blonde” podcast, I shared some raw and real insights into my complex bond with my dad, Rob Schneider.

In a recently shared sneak peek on TikTok ahead of the next episode, airing on Monday, the artist behind “Ex’s & Oh’s” publicly criticized Schneider for his vocal political opinions that are critical of the LGBTQ+ and drag community.

As a passionate film enthusiast, I find myself at odds with many of his statements, particularly when he speaks negatively about drag culture and advocates against LGBTQ+ rights. It’s utterly disappointing and unacceptable, to say the least. In essence, he needs to educate himself on these matters.

Towards the end of July, Schneider voiced his disappointment on X (previously known as Twitter) regarding the Olympics opening ceremony’s depiction inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s “The Last Supper.” However, unlike the original scene with Jesus and his disciples, this portrayal showcased drag queens and vibrantly dressed individuals seated at the table.

As a lifelong sports enthusiast and a devoted Christian, I find myself deeply disappointed by the direction that the Olympics has taken. Over the years, I have watched with pride as athletes from all over the world came together to compete in the spirit of fairness, camaraderie, and sportsmanship. However, it saddens me to see that the 2020 Tokyo Olympics seem to be more focused on disrespecting Christianity and openly celebrating values that I find contrary to my beliefs.

“Individuals openly displaying private areas, similar to drag queens, left me questioning whether I was at the Olympics or a school board gathering,” Schneider stated in a subsequent post.

As a cinephile, I’ve always been open about my complex relationship with my father. Growing up, we weren’t particularly close, and I didn’t truly connect with him until I’d reached well beyond my youthful years. My encounters with him during childhood were often on movie sets, where the bustling environment frequently left me feeling like a lost soul amidst the crowd.

“If I ever messed up a shot, if I was talking, I would get in fucking trouble,” King explained.

A significant point of friction between King and Schneider stemmed from their physical appearances, particularly King’s weight and body art (tattoos), which often sparked disagreements.

“As a child, I was significantly overweight. My father enrolled me in a weight loss camp, but one year, I injured my ankle and didn’t shed any pounds,” King recounted. “Already sporting tattoos, I found myself in trouble because my dad disapproved of them or any form of self-expression. In the scorching heat, I had to wear sweaters due to his strong opposition towards tattoos.”

A representative for Schneider declined to comment.

The monarch stated clearly that she’s not interested in reconciling with her father, expressing instead a desire to disconnect herself from him, as represented by Schneider.

“King remarked, ‘He’s really not kind.’ It’s tempting to wish for someone to alter so deeply. However, we have no power over others’ behaviors or emotions. The only things we can manage are our responses and how we handle our own feelings.”
