Elizabeth Olsen to Star in FX Pilot ‘Seven Sisters,’ Sean Durkin Tapped to Direct for ‘Martha Marcy May Marlene’ Reunion

A new drama series titled “Seven Sisters” is set to debut, and it will feature Elizabeth Olsen in the lead role. This project marks her reunion with director Sean Durkin, who previously worked with her on “Martha Marcy May Marlene.

In this upcoming episode by FX Productions, Olsen takes on the role of a sister who starts to experience a puzzling auditory hallucination. This peculiar voice sets off a chain reaction, causing her expansive family, comprising possibly seven sisters and additional relatives, to confront the buried secrets that have been weighing them down.

Besides Olsen and Durkin contributing to the script, Will Arbery is also recognized as the writer of the initial episode. In addition to their involvement in the script, Arbery, Durkin, and Basch serve as executive producers.

Over a span of more than 15 years since their first collaboration in the indie film “Martha Marcy May Marlene,” the pilot notices Olsen and Durkin coming back together. This movie was Durkin’s initial feature-length project, leading to an impressive career portfolio that now encompasses projects like the dark comedy “The Nest” starring Jude Law and Carrie Coon, as well as the biopic “The Iron Claw” focusing on professional wrestling.

In her acting career, Martha Marcy marked Elizabeth Olsen’s debut beyond her earlier roles as a child actor alongside her sisters Mary-Kate and Ashley in family movies. This thriller was well-received by critics and received four nominations at the Independent Spirits, with recognition for ‘Best First Feature’ and Olsen in the category of ‘Best Female Lead’. Following its premiere at Sundance, Steven Durkin won a directing award.
