Elijah Wood’s Yellowjackets S3 Scene Recalls Dark Comedy With Melanie Lynskey

Elijah Wood shares his thoughts on a scene between Shauna (Melanie Lynskey) and Walter in Yellowjackets season 3, noting that it reminded him of filming his 2017 dark comedy. In the show, Walter Tattersall, played by Wood, was introduced in season 2 and has continued as a recurring character in the present timeline, where he shows interest in Misty. During season 3, both characters find themselves competing to uncover the truth behind Lottie’s death, leading Walter to temporarily follow Shauna.

During an interview with Vanity Fair, Wood spoke about his initial scene with Lynskey in Yellowjackets, where Shauna confronts Walter for following her. The Lord of the Rings actor found the scene enjoyable to film because it mirrored a dynamic he and Lynskey had in I Don’t Feel At Home In This World Anymore, where they worked together to unravel a mystery. Here’s what he had to say:

This particular setting is quite enjoyable for several reasons. Melanie Lynskey is not just an acquaintance, but a cherished friend whom I hold in high esteem. My admiration for her extends over a considerable period, and I’ve been fortunate enough to collaborate with her on projects three times now. Our first encounter was on Over the Garden Wall, followed by a movie titled I Don’t Feel At Home In This World Anymore. What makes this last film intriguing is that my character and hers form an unlikely detective duo, working together to resolve a predicament she finds herself in.

This scene is quite intriguing because it subtly recaptures the relationships between those characters, reminding us of the enjoyable aspects from that movie, albeit with some similar but distinct dynamics. It’s delightful to revisit these interactions once more.

What This Means For Walter And Shauna In Yellowjackets

Walter And Shauna Have A Lot Of Potential As A Team

In 2017, the dark comedy titled “I Don’t Feel At Home In This World Anymore” featured both Wood and Lynskey. The story unfolds as a depressed woman, in search of a fresh purpose, teams up with her annoying neighbor to track down the burglars who robbed her house. Although some consider this movie as an underappreciated masterpiece in Wood’s filmography, it showcases one of Lynskey’s finest performances.

In Yellowjackets season 3, Shauna was initially suspected by Walter of being the culprit, but fresh evidence emerged. Shauna, dealing with various personal issues, wasn’t particularly fond of Walter delving into her past. Conversely, Walter disliked Shauna due to her treatment of Misty as a friend. Nevertheless, despite their deep-seated animosity towards one another, they found themselves on the same side in uncovering who murdered Lottie, which compelled them to collaborate.

Our Take On Walter & Shauna In Yellowjackets

Walter And Shauna Deserve More Screen Time Together

The pairing of Walter and Misty stands out significantly in the current storyline, largely due to the series’ focus on developing them as potential romantic partners. On the other hand, the interactions between Shauna and Walter are frequently underestimated since there aren’t many scenes featuring both characters together. However, their chemistry in season 3 appears less deliberate at first glance, but it proves to be something intriguing that deserves further examination.

If you’re curious about seeing more of Walter and Shauna in the upcoming season of Yellowjackets, but would also enjoy watching them as detectives chasing after criminals, then I recommend checking out the movie I Don’t Feel At Home In This World Anymore to hold you over. You can find it on Netflix.
