As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel a twinge of disappointment upon hearing that Elden Ring: Nightreign won’t support cross-play between different platforms. I remember the days of Sega vs. Nintendo, and how frustrating it was not to be able to challenge my friends on their systems. Yet here we are, back in a similar situation albeit with more options, but fewer opportunities to play together.

As an avid fan, I’m sharing some exciting news about Elden Ring: Nightreign, straight from From Software! Unfortunately, cross-play isn’t going to be a feature in this game. However, here’s the silver lining: if you and your family members are using the same family of systems, you’ll still have the opportunity to team up and conquer the realm together, despite potential differences in generations! So, let’s gear up for an epic adventure, even if we can’t quite join forces across platforms.

As a gamer, I’m excited to share that when it comes to Elden Ring, we’ll be able to play together across different generations of consoles. That means PlayStation 4 gamers like me can team up with those on the PlayStation 5, and Xbox One players can join forces with their counterparts on the Series S and X. However, there won’t be the ability to play with folks from other platforms, such as PC or Nintendo Switch users.

Because the game is primarily designed for multiplayer and cooperative play, it’s disappointing that cross-platform compatibility isn’t available. This was also the case with Elden Ring, as PlayStation and Xbox users were limited to summoning aid only from players on the same console platform.

Titled Elden Ring: Nightreign, this co-op action adventure is embedded within the Elden Ring universe, and From Software has emphasized that it’s not categorized as a live-service game. The creators aim to offer an immersive experience where every element within the game can be accessed through regular gameplay, rather than relying on post-launch updates or additional purchases. Expected to release in 2025 for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms.

At The Game Awards 2024, Elden Ring: Nightreign was unveiled as a new game, while Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree was shortlisted for several awards, even being nominated for the prestigious Game of the Year award. Yet, it didn’t secure any wins in the end.
