Elden Ring Nightreign: Tips and tricks for beginners
Plot your journey
As I dive into this game, I’m finding myself frequently consulting my in-game map, just like I would during a heated battle royale match. This handy tool displays all sorts of locations, from Sites of Grace where I can rest and level up, to Evergaols for challenging encounters, and Points of Interest brimming with bosses I can defeat for valuable loot.
Upon arriving with your group, observe the landscape near our landing point and map out the sequence of locations you’ll encounter as we move through various zones. Make sure to prioritize important places like Churches of Marika for character upgrades.
Move and level up quickly
After deciding your destination, prepare yourself and your team for action. As you advance, eliminate any easily defeated foes for quick leveling at a Site of Grace. Then, mark a new location on the map to collaboratively defeat a boss for significant power-ups or weapons. Repeat this process as the day progresses.
In the game of Nightreign, swiftness is crucial since time is limited, thus avoiding idleness is advisable. Slaughter monsters, gather resources, and flee, as the encroaching night’s circle becomes increasingly dangerous. Be cautious not to be trapped by the approaching storm, which can cause significant damage, so always stay alert and be ready to relocate as necessary, keeping a close watch on your map.
In each game, the highest level is 15, and it’s best to reach this point by day two’s end. If you manage to get there earlier by repeatedly defeating bosses (bosses provide 30,000 Runes or more), that’s excellent, but it’s achievable either way. I would recommend being at least level 12 if you want a fair fight against the chosen Night Lord.
Find churches
During every expedition, numerous Churches of Marika can be discovered across the map. As with the original game, these structures are vital because they offer an additional charge for your healing flask upon discovery. Be sure to visit any you encounter on your journey or marked on your map, as doing so will provide you with an upgrade for your flask.
Find merchants
Shops, similar to churches, hold significant value as they offer essential items such as an extra carrying pack, smithing stones, and various consumables that can boost your performance during each game. These handy stores can be found scattered across the map at random locations, often situated next to campfires, much like in the picture provided above.
Use your mobility
Take full advantage of Nightreign’s enhanced mobility and speed over the base game. Remember to employ the Surge Sprint (L3 on controller) for swift movement, wall-jump to ascend higher locations or navigate around barriers, utilize blue trees and their birds for mid-air redeployment, and aim for Spiritstreams to propel yourself forward.
Remember, falling doesn’t cause damage in Nightreign, so make the most of this feature by moving around freely and swiftly during each game.
Optimize your gear
Absolutely! While it’s crucial to act promptly, don’t forget to pause occasionally to fine-tune your loot for your character and game strategy. Each weapon and item you come across has random attributes and enhancements, so choose those that work best for your team and personal requirements.
Stick together…for now
As you familiarize yourself with Nightreign and its features, I strongly recommend sticking with your team. Given the potential for overwhelming mobs, utilizing the power of numbers will significantly benefit you too.
Additionally, if you find yourself in a perilous situation close to death, your teammates can resuscitate you and keep you engaged in the fight. As you grow accustomed to the game and advance a little, it’s slightly less risky to venture out alone for some loot, but it’s best to stay together throughout each round.
Use those consumables
You’ll often come across consumables such as weapon oils and damage-enhancing items scattered across the map. Remember to make use of them when necessary, as it’s more beneficial than perishing and setting back your progress by a level.
You will have the chance to restock some items before fighting the Night Lord on day three.
Master one character
Initially, let’s focus on learning a single character to get proficient. Experiment with the eight available classes to find the one that suits your gameplay style most. Once you’ve found it, stick with that class, defeating bosses and uncovering Nightfarer-specific Relics along the way, making each journey a bit smoother for you.
As I advance through the game, conquering a handful of formidable foes along the way, I encourage myself to get creative and explore different paths for each unique character’s journey.
