In the world of Elden Ring: Nightreign, memories are some of the trickier aspects I’ve encountered, yet they’re crucial to grasp because each one hides a special reward.
Rather than delving into the history of its universe as Elden Ring did, FromSoftware’s spin-off concentrates on unveiling the past events that shaped the playable characters and led them to join the battle against the Nightlords.
To gain access to some of the most powerful talent-enhancing artifacts in Nightreign, it’s essential to comprehensively understand the reasons behind each Nightfarer’s actions and their connections with one another. Thus, let me share insights into Remembrances and their functions.
In this way, we maintain a clear focus on the intricacies of the Nightfarers while ensuring that you are well-equipped to discover the hidden potential within the Relics of Nightreign.
What are Remembrance quests?
You can find remembrance quests at the central hub location, known as the Roundtable Hold. To access them, simply check your Journal, which contains a detailed account of significant moments in the lives of the game’s eight playable characters, even those that have not occurred yet.
Engaging with various characters during Expeditions and successfully finishing them will expand their Journal entries with extra details. Over time, this interaction will ultimately grant you a Remembrance. Interacting with these at the Journal will lead you to a separate instance of the Roundtable Hold. Here, an NPC will share some background information, followed by assigning you a task in Limgrave.
The tasks can be quite diverse in terms of prerequisites and level of complexity, frequently involving overcoming a unique adversary or boss out in the open world to secure a mission item. However, it’s important to understand that completing an Expedition following the achievement of a Remembrance goal is not essential for further advancement.
See the steps below for a breakdown of how Remembrance quests are generally structured.
How to complete Remembrance quests
- Open the Journal in Roundtable Hold
- Begin the selected character’s Remembrance (if applicable)
- Complete the highlighted objective in Limveld
- Complete and exit the Remembrance to claim a reward
Locate the Journal
Navigate to the marked section within Roundtable Hold to open the Journal. Here, you’ll find the status of each Nightfarer’s quest, and if there’s a Remembrance accessible, you can start it.
Complete a character-specific objective
Typically, after starting a Rememberance, you’ll find yourself instructed to engage with a particular Non-Player Character (NPC) stationed within the Roundtable Hold. This NPC will then task you with fulfilling a specific mission or objective.
In this scenario, Guardian is assigned by the Iron Menial to track down and overcome a unique adversary that can only emerge during his tribute. You’ll effortlessly identify these targets because they will be marked with a distinctive symbol on the Limveld map, as illustrated in the image provided.
After achieving your goal, your advancement will automatically be saved, whether the Journey concludes victoriously or not. Should you find yourself playing alone with the sole focus on making progress for the Remembrance, you can always exit to the main menu and reload your save to hasten completion.
Claim unique rewards
After getting back to the Roundtable Hold, have a chat with the NPC to tidy up any remaining tasks. Certain Memories, for instance, Wylder’s initial Memory, may necessitate extra minor actions like deciphering a riddle or solving a tiny puzzle within the Hold.
A Remembrance is considered finished when a portal appears close by, transporting you back to the present and often granting a Relic as a reward. For instance, successfully completing Wylder’s first Remembrance unlocks the Slate Whetstone, an item that can be used to enhance his Claw Shot skill.
Memories can be created individually or with others, but if you choose the group approach, it’s essential to understand that only one can be active during each session. Even when all conditions are satisfied, their appearance isn’t guaranteed.
