FromSoftware’s games typically don’t evoke feelings of happiness or comfort in players, but this is a goal being pursued by Elden Ring Nightreign‘s director, Junya Ishizaki, as he aims to create a different experience.
In a recent apology, the director acknowledged oversight in not including a two-player cooperative mode initially. However, in a fresh interview, they clarified that their development team is diligently working on fine-tuning the forthcoming multiplayer game to ensure players find joy and comfort while engaging with the title.
Elden Ring Nightreign will make you feel comfortable
In an interview with GamesRadar, Ishizaki shared that he feels both thrilled and a bit anxious leading up to the game’s release. Although the director remains optimistic about this multiplayer game, they are fine-tuning it right up until launch (and likely afterward too).
At this stage of development, the game’s director emphasized that the main focus is on achieving a balanced gameplay experience. This involves the team dedicating significant effort to ensure the game is played fairly. Furthermore, the director highlighted that they are also working diligently to create an environment where players will feel at ease and comfortable while enjoying their gaming experience.
He mentioned that we make adjustments right up until the final moment, striving for optimal performance during every session. Our goal is to ensure players feel content and at ease throughout each session, so we’re working diligently to achieve a perfect balance of player comfort and gameplay feel before wrapping things up.
Reflecting on my Soulslike game journey, it’s rarely a comfortable experience for me. While some hardcore Souls gamers might find comfort in tackling FromSoftware’s tough RPGs, I usually feel anxious, scared, tense, and even a bit frustrated. And yes, I guess you could say I’m a typical games journalist!
Instead of being a fully-fledged sequel, Elden Ring Nightreign stands as an exciting upcoming multiplayer title from FromSoftware. As one of their two significant multiplayer projects, they assure us that they’ll soon revert to single-player development. Yet, expect plenty of post-release updates for the new game.
