Elden Ring Nightreign Dev Suggests Duos May Be Unbalanced

Summary

  • Elden Ring Nightreign allows solo play and trios but not duos.
  • It seems the devs simply overlooked it while focusing on the other two options.
  • Duos will be considered for post-launch content.

In approximately a week, the highly anticipated Elden Ring Nightreign is nearly here! Gather your group of three and embark on an adventure through the expansive realm of Limveld, assuming roles as diverse character classes, with some being more renowned than others. Keep an eye out for familiar adversaries drawn from FromSoftware’s chilling roster of formidable bosses – they’ll be even more challenging than you might recall.

It’s great to know that you have the freedom to play Nightreign alone if that suits you better. The game will adjust its difficulty level accordingly for a single player experience. Keep in mind though, since it’s a FromSoftware title, expect it to be tough as steel no matter what! It appears the developers have put emphasis on both solo and multiplayer balancing, but they may have overlooked the challenge of playing with two others.

Elden Ring: Nightreign Devs Just Forgot About Duos

In a chat with IGN, director Junya Ishizaki shared that the developers prioritized solo and trios modes at first, leaving duos mode aside for now. It’s possible FromSoftware decided to hold off on duos during development to avoid releasing an incomplete version of it. But don’t worry, he confirmed that they intend to add duos as a feature after the game’s initial launch.

Apologies for any inconvenience, but during the development process, we didn’t initially consider Nightreign as a two-player option due to our primary goal of creating a multiplayer cooperative game for three players. This was our main focus and it forms the heart of Nightreign.

Ishizaki shared that the developers aimed to cater to both solo players and those who prefer playing in teams of three. Consequently, their focus was on maintaining balance between these two game modes. Unfortunately, due to this emphasis on balance, they didn’t have enough time to give due attention to duo mode.

Initially, our focus was primarily on one particular aspect, which unfortunately led us to underestimate the importance of the two-player mode. However, we are currently evaluating this aspect for potential improvements in our post-launch updates. So, if you and another friend want to play Nightreign without a third player, it might take some time before this feature becomes available.
