It’s likely that many players share this experience. Mastering the strategy to vanquish Fulghor may well be the most challenging obstacle to clear.
If you aim to accomplish all the Nightreign Remembrances for each character in Elden Ring, it means you’ll need to defeat Fulghir at least once. In our tier list, Ironeye is ranked best, and he requires you to slay Fulghir during Chapter 6. Immediately after unlocking Revenant, you’ll be tasked with eliminating either Fulghir or Gladius again, marking the start of Nightreign bosses. So, when I suggest you take on Gladius for a second time instead of battling the Nightglow Champion, it shouldn’t come as a shock.

To stand a good chance against tough boss Fulghor, it’s crucial to prepare properly right away. This means not only choosing the optimal rune farming path and always looking for legendary weapons that fit your character, but also grasping some particular points:
To have a decent shot at defeating formidable boss Fulghor, proper preparation is key from the get-go. This entails selecting the ideal route for rune farming and constantly scouting for legendary weapons that align with your character’s build, but there are also some specifics to take into account:
- Get a lightning weapon or spells
As a gamer, I always keep in mind that Fulghor may seem like he’s immune to holy damage with his symbol looking deceptively similar, but he’s actually weak to lightning! Dealing enough lightning damage can throw him off balance and even halt his casting of holy spells. This makes all the difference when trying to defeat him.
When starting a run, I recommend scanning the map for locations marked with the lightning symbol or equipping relics that imbue my initial weapon with lightning damage. Upgrading this weapon using smithing stones and taking advantage of events like Shifting Earth: Crater (if it’s active) can further enhance its power.
To maximize my effectiveness, I also suggest using relics that boost lightning damage. This tactic has proven successful in my battles against Fulghor!
If fortune seems to elude you, keep in mind that you can alternatively apply lightning oil to your weapon for a temporary boost. In such a scenario, make sure to carry double the amount of lightning oil just to stay prepared.
- Scarlet rot and poison damage save time
One way to manage a frustrating boss fight, such as with Fulghor who moves around excessively making it difficult to strike back, is by utilizing damage-over-time (DoT) effects like scarlet rot or poison. Since poison is more easily obtainable, you can use it immediately. However, scarlet rot, which can cause more damage, is less common. To maximize your chances of finding scarlet rot, I recommend completing the Shifting Earth: Rotted Woods event if it’s currently active during your playthrough.
- Prioritise holy damage negation
In the majority of Fulghor’s assaults, particularly the ones causing intense discomfort, he inflicts holy damage. You may recall the experience, but given his forceful blows, anything that lessens the impact is undeniably advantageous. I advise utilizing relics capable of nullifying holy damage if you possess them (look at the Small Jar Bazaar within Roundtable Hold if you don’t) and remain vigilant for the Haligdrake talisman during your journey. Obtain both a suitable relic and the talisman, and you will have approximately 25% protection against holy damage.
- Level up and get flask upgrades
It’s best to aim to be around level 15 before battling Fulghor, as each level provides additional health, endurance, and overall power. Relics that boost rune acquisition are useful for this purpose, and don’t forget to pick up the buff from trees with a golden aura. Also, make sure to fill your flasks completely by visiting churches before entering the fight.
How to beat Fulghor, Champion of Nightglow, in Elden Ring Nightreign
Despite blocking crucial assaults, Fulghor seldom comes to a halt, making it challenging to get close enough for melee combat. Characters with superior range or high agility tend to prevail in this battle, although having a tank as part of the team can also be beneficial for a well-rounded lineup.
- Wylder: With his grappling hook, he’s fast at repositioning and re-engaging with Fulghor after he moves. His ultimate art deals massive damage to both HP and stance, which could give you a clear window to go ham. It helps that Wylder’s preferred weapon type is a greatsword, the perfect balance between speed and power.
- Ironeye: Master of the bow, he’s able to deal consistent damage to Fulghor even when he’s dashing around the arena. His Marking skill not only increases the damage your entire team deals to the target, but it can also be used as a dodge to survive virtually any attack.
- Duchess: Her Restage skill repeats recent damage against targets (including the affinity boost from using lightning against Fulghor), easily adding bonus burst damage when you get an opening. Her enhanced dodge also helps to avoid the Darkdrift Knight’s many AoE attacks.
- Raider: While he’s slow, especially with his love of colossal weapons, Raider is fantastic at staggering enemies, which is really useful against Fulghor. You’ll need stamina-boosting talismans to make him more viable though, given all the running around.
I’d usually caution against choosing Fulghor as your character when facing Revenant. His wide-sweeping attacks swiftly eliminate summons, and it’s tough for most characters to keep pace with him anyway. Moreover, if you’re planning to build Revenant as a ranged spellcaster, opting for Recluse might be more suitable instead.
Nevertheless, it’s time to put the Darkdrift Knight in the dirt, so here’s how to beat Fulghor:
- Watch out for these attacks
Fulghor possesses several lethal assaults that, if not dodged or halted, can lead to an unfortunate demise.

Unlike many other enemies, timing and patience are crucial when facing him – you won’t be able to launch numerous attacks before having to concentrate on evading again.
- Interrupt and stun frequently using lightning (especially melee)
It’s important to emphasize again that Fulghor is vulnerable to lightning attacks. This not only grants additional damage but also allows you to disrupt and halt his crucial moves, such as the holy spear slam. If each member of your squad possesses lightning damage, be it from a weapon, a spell, grease, or even a bomb, the battle becomes significantly less challenging. Furthermore, he is much simpler to stun with melee weapons that discharge lightning compared to ranged options like a bow, provided you can approach him closely for an attack.
- Reviving skills and ultimates are invaluable
If you haven’t fully grasped Fulghor’s techniques, it’s almost certain that you’ll take a hit and eventually be defeated. Given the relentless nature of Fulghor’s moves, chances are slim that you can revive an ally if they’ve died multiple times. Using abilities like Wending Grace to self-revive or conserving ultimate skills for team revival (such as Guardian, Revenant, or even Ironeye) can significantly increase your team’s survival rate in combat.
