During Nintendo’s Switch 2 presentation, it was disclosed that the popular game Elden Ring will be adapted for the upcoming Switch 2 system. Originally launched on various platforms in 2022 and garnering nearly 30 million sales worldwide, Elden Ring boasts a dedicated fanbase eagerly supporting its franchise. This exciting news was withheld from Nintendo Switch enthusiasts until recently when they announced Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition, set to launch exclusively on the next-generation Nintendo console.
When transitioning a game to the Nintendo Switch, later releases often include unique Nintendo-specific elements as well as exclusive content to entice players and make use of special Nintendo features such as amiibo for added value. Since Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition is now coming to the Nintendo Switch 2, it’s important that the same Nintendo-exclusive content from other games is present in this version too.
Given that Elden Ring is a Souls-like action RPG, it’s unlikely that certain Nintendo collaborations will ever be discussed. Yet, one Nintendo franchise that could mesh seamlessly with Elden Ring is the Zelda series. With both Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom getting remasters for the Nintendo Switch 2, a partnership with Elden Ring seems plausible.
Previously, various games have been successfully adapted for play on the Nintendo Switch console, even incorporating exclusive content from “The Legend of Zelda”. At the premium level, “Diablo 3” collaborated with Nintendo to launch a special edition “Diablo 3” themed Nintendo Switch. The collaboration resulted in unique items such as a custom-designed “Diablo 3” dock for the console, a branded carrying case, and digital cosmetic additions like the Ganondorf Transmog Armor set, Cucco companion, and more. On the budget side, “The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim” also managed to include exclusive Zelda items such as The Master Sword, Hylian Shield, and The Champion’s Tunic in its Nintendo Switch version.
It’s entirely plausible and fitting for a game like Elden Ring to introduce new armor sets such as Link’s tunic or Ganondorf’s armor, as well as incorporating Majora’s Mask as an exclusive helmet. Similarly, weapons found in Elden Ring could include various iconic items from the Zelda franchise, including The Master Sword, Hylian Shield, Sword of the Six Sages, The Fierce Deity Sword, and many legendary weapons featured in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
Many Nintendo exclusives are playable using the amiibo feature, implying there’s room for more Nintendo amiibos. The release of the remastered Dark Souls on Nintendo Switch introduced a Solaire of Astora amiibo that is unique to Nintendo. This situation presents an excellent chance for a new amiibo based on a character from Elden Ring. On the other hand, this Solaire of Astora amiibo could gain additional functionality to interact with Elden Ring on Switch 2. This could activate Dark Souls-exclusive gestures, or transfer gear from the Warrior of Sunlight into Elden Ring.
At the moment, neither Nintendo nor FromSoftware has announced whether t Tarnished Edition, scheduled for later in 2025, approaches.
