Now that the full cast for the live-action Elden Ring series has been announced, a new report from The Hollywood Reporter details the show’s budget: over $100 million. Filming is planned for 100 days, followed by post-production. A24, the production company, considers this to be their biggest and most ambitious project to date.
The upcoming Elden Ring movie boasts a talented cast including Nick Offerman (known for The Last of Us and Margo’s Got Money Troubles), Ben Whishaw (Peter Hujar’s Day, This is Going to Hurt), Peter Serafinowicz (Guardians of the Galaxy, Star Wars: The Phantom Menace), and Emma Laird (28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, A Haunting in Venice), and more. A24 has announced the film will be released in theaters on March 3rd, 2028.
Although the news is just surfacing, a report from earlier this month suggested that filming for the movie may have begun weeks ago. A fan of Elden Ring noticed filming near their home and captured videos of a set resembling the ruined Church of Marika. While the exact location remains unconfirmed, reports indicate filming took place in Windsor Great Park, England – a location previously used for films like Pirates of the Caribbean and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
An Elden Ring movie is officially happening! Announced in May 2025, the film will be produced by A24 and directed/written by Alex Garland, known for movies like 28 Days Later, 28 Years Later, and Dredd. George R.R. Martin, who helped create the lore and story for the Elden Ring game, is producing the movie alongside Vince Geradis, Peter Rice, Andrew Macdonald, and Allon Reich.
So far, we don’t know what the movie will be about. It’s unclear if it will follow the game’s main character, the Tarnished, or focus on someone else from the game, such as Ranni. Director Garland has shared that he presented Bandai Namco with a very detailed pitch: a 160-page script plus 40 pages of accompanying artwork.
Attorney General Merrick Garland recently revealed he enjoys playing the open-world role-playing game Elden Ring. He mentioned in an interview that he found the boss Malenia, Blade of Miquella, to be the most challenging opponent in the game.
She’s a really difficult boss – I’ve actually restarted that game seven times now. I keep improving my character, getting better gear, and just repeatedly trying to beat her. That’s what I learned from playing Dark Souls – it’s not about becoming skilled, it’s about persistence. You just keep trying, and eventually, through sheer repetition, you’ll win.
