This alliance is an expansion of the existing fruitful collaborations between Netflix and Balaji, as demonstrated by their past hit productions such as “Kathal,” “Pagglait,” “Jaane Jaan” and the critically acclaimed “Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare,” which was selected for the Busan Film Festival.

Established by Kapoor along with her parents Jeetendra Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor in 1994, Balaji Telefilms stands as the leading television content producer across South Asia. The company significantly marked its presence with the popular soap series “Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi,” airing from 2000 to 2008 on Star Plus and contributing over 1,833 episodes to the genre. Under the Balaji brand, Kapoor has been responsible for producing more than 18,000 hours of television content and 45 films.

Kapoor and Monika Shergill, Netflix’s Vice President for Content in India, are the sole female representatives from the Indian broadcasting sector to be included in the EbMaster500, a list that recognizes the 500 most impactful business figures who are significantly influencing the international media industry.

Ekta Kapoor has significantly influenced Indian entertainment by creating timeless narratives and characters that resonated deeply with the masses, long before the era of hashtags,” stated Shergill. “Her keen creativity and intuitive grasp of audience preferences have consistently distinguished her in shaping the content that India embraced and cherished for over two decades. At Netflix, our goal is to cater to diverse audiences with our content, and this collaboration will introduce distinctive stories in authentic ways, launching an exciting new phase in our creative odyssey.

At Balaji Telefilms, the art of storytelling has always been at our core, shaping our work across film, TV, and digital realms. In a significant turn of events, we’re thrilled to announce our partnership with Netflix – a globally renowned platform recognized for its top-tier content and continuous innovation. This collaboration opens up the opportunity for us to share impactful, culturally grounded, and emotionally compelling narratives with a worldwide audience. The start of this joint venture signifies an exhilarating new phase in which we continue to explore creative frontiers, producing content that engages, motivates, and bridges connections across the globe.
