‘Eddington’ Teaser: Joaquin Phoenix, Pedro Pascal and Emma Stone Spread Pandemic Conspiracy Theories in Ari Aster’s Western Mystery

The initial preview for Ari Aster’s upcoming movie has been unveiled, sparking intrigue with its dialogue centered around COVID-19 conspiracies amid a dramatic scrolling through digital content on screen.

The upcoming movie ‘Eddington,’ a contemporary Western, marks Aster’s subsequent production following the commercial underperformance of ‘Beau Is Afraid’ in 2023.

As a cinephile, I find myself captivated by the synopsis of “Eddington,” where the tense encounter between the local sheriff (Joaquin Phoenix) and mayor (Pedro Pascal) in Eddington, New Mexico during May 2020, sets off a volatile situation. The once peaceful neighbors begin to clash, creating a powder keg of tension.

Additionally, Austin Butler, Emma Stone, Luke Grimes, Deirdre O’Connell, Micheal Ward, Amélie Hoeferle, Clifton Collins Jr., and William Belleau will be part of the ensemble in Phoenix and Pascal.

The movie is Ari Aster’s fourth full-length production, coming after “Hereditary,” “Midsommar,” and “The Osterman Weekend” (which also featured Phoenix). Notably, all these movies were produced by A24.

Aster conversed about collaborating on the song “Afraid” with Phoenix in a talk held by EbMaster for their ‘Directors talking to Directors’ series.

After collaborating with him, I grasp his hesitance to dive into new projects quickly. This is due to the fact that he fully immerses himself in whatever task at hand. His approach to material isn’t about being difficult or annoying, but rather about asking insightful questions like ‘Have we overlooked anything here?’ What I wanted from an actor, I found in him, and now I can’t fathom creating a film without him.

The Cannes Film Festival is scheduled to take place between May 13th and May 24th. The U.S. premiere of “Eddington” has been planned for July 18th. You can preview the trailer here.
