
Season 2 of The Day of the Jackal is moving forward with a fresh creative team. Following some changes last year, a new writer and showrunner have joined the production.
Starring Eddie Redmayne, The Day of the Jackal on Peacock and Sky was a huge success when its first season launched, becoming Sky’s most popular new series ever in the UK. The show centers around a skilled killer and master of disguise who takes on a dangerous assignment: assassinating a well-known political figure. He’s offered a particularly risky – and lucrative – job after an attack on the politician.
According to Deadline, Weruche Opia and Pablo Schreiber will be joining the cast of The Day of the Jackal as main characters in season 2. Opia is known for her work on I May Destroy You, while Schreiber has appeared in Halo and Orange Is the New Black. Details about their new roles and the plot of the upcoming season are currently being kept secret.
The show’s first season was a hit in the U.S., reaching the top 10 most-streamed original dramas both when it first launched and when the season ended.

Last year, we announced a change in leadership for season two. Ronan Bennett, the series creator, is stepping down, and David Harrower – known for his work on Lockerbie: A Search for the Truth – is taking over as creator and showrunner for The Day of the Jackal. It’s currently unknown how this change will affect the show’s style or overall story. We haven’t received any further updates about season two yet.
Eddie Redmayne, famous for his role in The Day of the Jackal and films like The Theory of Everything, The Danish Girl, and the Fantastic Beasts series, has several upcoming projects, including season 2 of a new show, Later the War, and Panic Carefully. He’ll be joined by Lashana Lynch, who starred in Captain Marvel, No Time to Die, and The Woman King. Lynch also has upcoming roles in Directive 8020 and The Outside Room.
A release date for season 2 of The Day of the Jackal hasn’t been officially announced, but it’s likely to arrive in late 2026 or early 2027.
