61-year-old actor Ed Gale, known for donning the Howard the Duck costume in his screen debut, as well as portraying Chuckie in Child’s Play and two subsequent movies from the franchise, passed away on Tuesday in Los Angeles.
In a heartfelt post on Facebook, Kayse Gale shared: “With a heavy heart, yet a somewhat light casket, we announce the unexpected demise of our uncle, Edward Gale. Edward Gale has gracefully bid farewell to this world and is now the star performer in the afterlife. At the tender age of 20, Edward embarked on a journey to California, carrying only $41 and a vision. He never hesitated to move forward from there. His charisma illuminated the big screens in cult movies such as ‘Howard the Duck’ and ‘Chopper Chicks in Zombie Town,’ garnering him immense respect at every convention he attended, which he always found an opportunity to boast about.
Throughout his illustrious career, he showcased himself in more than 130 films, television programs, and advertisements. With such a diverse collection of work, he leaves behind a legacy marked by debatable lighting techniques and captivating catchphrases.
Ed cherished the role of being the ‘fun uncle’ the most. His unique way of expressing affection was by introducing his nieces to the enchantment of the entertainment world and the magic of Hollywood.
Ed adored hot dogs from 7-Eleven, drowning them in excessive ketchup. He cherished recalling his golden years as a disc jockey at the Plainwell roller rink. For no apparent reason, he disliked Bill Maher intensely. He savored the gradual unfolding of a captivating story and the occasional sneaky move in cribbage. His laughter was infectious, and he will be sorely missed. May you rest peacefully, you grumpy old soul.
Gale donned the sinister-looking Chucky’s costume in “Child’s Play 2” and “Bride of Chucky,” playing the role of the possessed doll carrying the spirit of a murderer.
In the television show “Land of the Lost,” Gale portrayed the dinosaur character Tasha. He made a short appearance on “My Name Is Earl” as a circus performer, and he took on a secondary role in the movie “Tiptoes,” starring Matthew McConaughey, which centered around a family of people with dwarfism.
Additionally, he has been featured in various productions such as “O Brother, Where Art Thou?”, “Baywatch”, “3rd Rock from the Sun”, “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure (sequel)”, and “Friday the 13th: The Series”.
Gale was also a familiar face at fan conventions and personal appearances for his films.
Originating from Plainwell, Michigan, he later relocated to Los Angeles with aspirations of becoming an actor. He went on to feature in over a hundred films, television programs, and advertisements.
