Koei Tecmo has confirmed that the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 version of *Dynasty Warriors: Origins* will run at a consistent 30 frames per second. They’ve chosen this approach over trying to display more characters on screen while aiming for 60fps, as announced following the recent Nintendo Direct.
The development team is prioritizing maintaining the original feel of the ‘1 vs 1000’ game, and has chosen to target a consistent 30 frames per second on the Nintendo Switch 2 rather than sacrificing content to achieve a higher frame rate. A complete translation of Tomohiko Sho’s statement is available from Famitsu (link below).
So, about the Switch 2 version – we’re aiming for a smooth, stable experience, and that means it’ll run at 30 frames per second. The hardware is solid, and honestly, we could’ve pushed for 60fps if we’d kept the number of soldiers on screen closer to what we had in previous *Warriors* games. But this game has *a lot* of characters – thousands at times! – and I think it’s way more important that everyone can play with a consistently stable 30fps, rather than a potentially choppy 60fps. We want it to be fun, and that means prioritizing stability.

Dynasty Warriors: Origins came out earlier this year for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. You can read Josh’s review here. A major expansion, including the Yellow Turban Rebellion and the Battle of Chibi, is scheduled to release alongside the upcoming Switch 2 version.
I’m so excited! Dynasty Warriors: Origins is finally here! I can play it right now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. And if you’re a Switch fan like me, you won’t have to wait too long – it’s coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 on January 22, 2026!
