Ahead of the release of the ‘Visions of Four Heroes’ DLC, Famitsu recently interviewed Tomohiko Sho, the producer of Dynasty Warriors Origins. In the interview, Sho suggested that the team is considering expanding the game beyond its current two-part story into a full trilogy.
Previous Dynasty Warriors games typically covered the majority of China’s Three Kingdoms period, starting with the Yellow Turban Rebellion in the 180s and ending with the Battle of Wuzhang Plains in 234 AD. More recent games have extended this to include the fall of the Shu Kingdom in 264 AD.
Dynasty Warriors Origins focuses solely on the Battle of Chi Bi (also known as Red Cliffs) in 208 AD. The game’s director, Tomohiko Sho, intends to include the rest of the historical period in future games.

Famitsu noted that if downloadable content is available for purchase, many players would likely be hoping for a sequel or further development of the game’s story.
Developing this DLC, like with past projects, presents several challenges. We’re focused on refining the core gameplay that makes the Dynasty Warriors series special, and we also have a lot of new features and improvements we’re working on.
Famitsu: We’ve also previously heard how you already have the plots and such.
We’re planning to cover similar ground to the previous interview about the initial game release. Originally, we aimed to tell the story up to the Battle of Chi Bi, and envisioned a sequel that would continue to the Battle of Wuzhang Plains, creating a two-part series. However, the final game ended up being much more detailed and comprehensive up to the Battle of Chi Bi than we anticipated.
If we kept this level of detail throughout the entire story, it would be too much to cover before the Battle of Wuzhang Plains (chuckles). That’s why we decided to split it into three parts during development. As the producer, I’m asking for your support – please buy this DLC and encourage others to play the main game (laughs). We really appreciate your continued support!

Dynasty Warriors Origins is currently available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC through Steam. The game is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 soon, on January 22nd, alongside the ‘Visions of Four Heroes’ DLC for all platforms.
