As a fan who has followed Dylan O’Brien’s career closely, I can’t help but admire his resilience and maturity that have emerged from a harrowing experience on the set of “Maze Runner: The Death Cure.” His near-death accident not only changed the course of the film but also shaped him into a stronger, more self-reliant individual.
In a recent chat with Men’s Health, Dylan O’Brien shared that his safety concerns on the set of “Maze Runner: The Death Cure” in 2016 weren’t heeded or valued, leading to a life-threatening accident during filming. Unfortunately, while performing a stunt, he sustained serious injuries, including a concussion, facial fracture, and brain trauma. Filming for the movie came to an immediate halt.
The experience was a turning point for me. Since then, I’ve taken a different approach to things, especially when it comes to asserting myself on set. In the acting world, it’s quite typical for young actors to be manipulated, and they often try to do this by saying things like, “Don’t cause trouble. Don’t make life difficult for us.” Or “Are you being difficult? Are you complaining?” Such phrases are not uncommon.
O’Brien pointed out that a key lesson from the incident was that prioritizing self-care while working, rather than being seen as challenging, is essential.
As a young film enthusiast of 24, I can reflect back on that day and recognize myself as a concerned lad voicing my opinions about our methods. Regrettably, they were neither heeded nor respected. And then, events unfolded as they did. By all accounts, it seems those incidents were swept under the rug with relative ease.
Ultimately, within the confines of this cinematic journey, it’s my self-reliance that I can truly count on. I am well-acquainted with the individual I am and the persona I project on set, one that values respect for others and a professional workspace. I assure you, I am not a difficult personality nor an arrogant figure. That fateful day, I was merely safeguarding myself, an act I’ve never forgotten. This self-protection remains my unwavering compass.
As a dedicated cinephile, I can’t help but reflect on the harrowing incident that unfolded on the set of “Maze Runner: The Death Cure.” During a high-risk stunt involving being pulled from a speeding vehicle, I found myself in an unexpected collision with another car. This unfortunate event sent me on a lengthy journey of physical rehabilitation, which left me pondering over whether my passion for acting would ever bring me back to the silver screen.
For some time, I found myself in a difficult situation, and getting out of it wasn’t simple,” O’Brien had shared with Vulture earlier. “At one point, I questioned if I’d be able to do it again… and that uncertainty was also frightening.
Lately, O’Brien has been granting interviews across various media outlets, showcasing his role in Jason Reitman’s movie titled “Saturday Night.” In this film, he portrays the character previously played by Dan Aykroyd.
