Dying Light The Beast Brings a Monstrous Kyle Crane Back to Life

As a seasoned gamer who has battled hordes of zombies in the post-apocalyptic world of Dying Light, I must admit my excitement bubbling over at the prospect of returning to the gritty streets of Harran once more. Nearly a decade since the original game’s launch and three years since its sequel, it’s been an agonizing wait for any news regarding our beloved parkour-slasher franchise. But now, with Dying Light: The Beast on the horizon, I can hardly contain my anticipation!

Approximately a decade since the debut of the first Dying Light, and around three years following its sequel’s release, Techland is introducing a new spin-off titled Dying Light: The Beast. This standalone game revisits the original protagonist in a storyline that unfolds several years after the events depicted in The Following expansion.

At Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 20, 2024, it was unveiled that Dying Light: The Beast, initially conceived as a downloadable content (DLC) for Dying Light 2, had evolved into a separate game. As the development of the expansion progressed, its creators, Techland, chose to present it independently, featuring the return of Kyle Crane in a fresh context.

In the wake of numerous experiments after the events portrayed in Dying Light: The Following expansion pack, Dying Light: The Beast introduces a monstrous form of the protagonist, Crane, into the game series. Due to his zombie-like abilities, players will now have the opportunity to stalk and eliminate both zombies and humans within the parkour-centric slasher game in an entirely new fashion.

In the trailer, the gameplay largely resembles what we’re familiar with from the series, but ‘The Beast’ hasn’t been shown using his new powers yet, gained after the events of Harran. But here’s a piece of good news: If you own Dying Light 2 Ultimate Edition, you won’t need to spend extra for the upcoming experience.

In the debut trailer, the comeback of automobiles is quite thrilling, as demonstrated in Dying Light: The Following. Despite some issues in the original game, the expansive plains were significantly improved with the incorporation of vehicles. Interestingly, Kyle Crane’s extensive research years haven’t seemed to impact his driving skills one bit.

Unfortunately, there’s no set release date or price for Dying Light: The Beast yet, as only a ‘Wishlist Now’ message appeared during its unveiling trailer. Given that it’s additional DLC, we can expect it might be more affordable than the original Dying Light pair. On a positive note, if you’re eager to delve back into Dying Light 2 before The Beast hits the shelves, the new Tower Raid in Dying Light 2 seems like an excellent opportunity!
