‘Dune: Prophecy’ Sets November Premiere Date, Unveils Sandworms and Return to Arrakis in New Trailer

As a long-time fan of the Dune universe, I can hardly contain my excitement for this upcoming prequel series, “Dune: Prophecy.” Being immersed in the world of Arrakis since my teenage years, I’ve eagerly awaited any new addition to this rich and complex tapestry.

It’s almost time to return to Arrakis.

The “Dune: Prophecy” prequel series, long-awaited by fans, has set its debut date. Beginning on HBO and streaming on Max, the premiere episode airs this coming Sunday, Nov. 17 at 9 p.m. Spanning six episodes, subsequent installments will follow each Sunday.

The series takes place over 10,000 years prior to Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune” films and delves into the beginnings of the Bene Gesserit, a clandestine group of influential psychics who manipulate political affairs from behind the scenes in the sci-fi universe.

Set in the grand cosmos of ‘Dune,’ penned by esteemed author Frank Herbert, ‘Dune: Prophecy’ delves into events 10,000 years prior to Paul Atreides’ rise, focusing on a pair of Harkonnen sisters. These sisters wage battles against looming forces that could jeopardize humanity’s destiny, and in doing so, lay the groundwork for the revered order known as the Bene Gesserit. This story is inspired by ‘Sisterhood of Dune,’ a novel co-authored by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson.

In the “Dune” movies, Emily Watson portrays Valya Harkonnen, the head of the Bene Gesserit Sisterhood, while Olivia Williams takes on the role of her sister Tula Harkonnen. Both characters are distant relatives of the malevolent House Harkonnen, which deceives Paul Atreides and his father in the series. Mark Strong stars as Emperor Javicco Corrino, and Sarah-Sofie Boussnina plays his daughter Princess Ynez. The ensemble also includes Travis Fimmel, Jodhi May, Josh Heuston, Chloe Lea, Jade Anouka, Faoileann Cunningham, Edward Davis, Aoife Hinds, Chris Mason, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Camilla Beeput, Jihae, Tabu, Charithra Chandran, Jessica Barden, Emma Canning and Yerin Ha.

Alison Schapker takes on the roles of showrunner and executive producer, while Diane Ademu-John collaborates in developing the series and also acts as an executive producer. Anna Foerster assumes the roles of executive producer and director for various episodes, including the first one. Jordan Goldberg, Mark Tobey, John Cameron, Matthew King, Scott Z. Burns, Jon Spaihts, Brian Herbert (in collaboration with Byron Merritt and Kim Herbert, representing the Frank Herbert estate), and Kevin J. Anderson serve as executive producers. The series is co-produced by HBO and Legendary Television.
