As a dedicated fan who has witnessed the rise and fall of empires in both Westeros and the Duniverse, I must say that the recent cameo of Robert Baratheon (Mark Addy) and Ser Oscar Tully (Archie Barnes) in Dune: Prophecy Episode 3 was an unexpected yet delightful twist!

Prophecy Episode 3.

In the series Dune: Prophecy, it appears to be mirroring the structure of Game of Thrones (and House of the Dragon): various characters are all striving for dominance over the Duniverse, either by attempting to conquer Salusa Secundus and seize Javicco Corrino’s throne, or by forming alliances with him and secretly working towards weakening his power. Additionally, a notable romantic scene took place in Episode 2.

It’s yet unclear if this series will travel as far as HBO’s leading show. After last week’s chilling finale, the third episode delves into the past, examining Valya’s early years in the Sisterhood and Tula’s surprising chase after House Atreides beyond their world.

This prepares the stage for some fresh characters portrayed by recognized actors, a few of whom will only make a single appearance.

Welcome back, Robert Baratheon and Oscar Tully

As a devoted fan, I’d like to mention that the captivating Mark Addy, known for his unforgettable portrayal of Robert Baratheon in Game of Thrones’ inaugural season, now graces our screens as Uncle Evgeny in Dune: Part One. Once a formidable force within the Harkonnen family, he adds another layer to the intrigue and complexity of this epic saga.

In Episode 3, he briefly appears, eating what seems like hastily gathered meat and scolding Valya for persuading Tula to kill Orry Atreides and his entire family. Although it’s assumed he is deceased, he unexpectedly reappears at the end alongside Harrow, who is now Barron Harkonnen. However, his health seems poor; much like Stellan Skarsgård, he requires oxygen to breathe.

Additionally, there’s Archie Barnes, famously known for portraying the beloved character Ser Oscar Tully, who showed remarkable courage towards Daemon near the end of his prolonged tenure at Harrenhal. Previously, he had also played the role of Albert Atreides. However, I should clarify that played is more appropriate in this context as Albert Atreides was a character he portrayed in the past.

As a gamer, when Episode 3 deviates from Valya’s journey, I find myself observing Tula as she endeavors to win over her boyfriend’s family. It’s all rather innocent, and in no time, Tula proves her worth by whipping up meals and lending a hand in the humane euthanization of an injured horse.

Albert makes a short appearance as Tula enlists his assistance in creating bull-bait, demonstrating the art of deceiving them with potent poison. Tula remarks, “Strength is not always evident on the surface.

It appears that Barnes’ part might have been limited to just this occasion. In a chilling act of revenge, Tula employs the identical poison to exterminate her entire clan, exacting retribution for Griffin’s murder carried out by Vorian Atreides.
