Dune: Awakening’s PvP-Heavy Endgame Is About To Get A Huge PvE Shift

In the game “Dune: Awakening,” the PvP-centric final stage will soon incorporate additional features, allowing players to battle not just each other but also computer-managed adversaries. The developers at Funcom have unveiled significant modifications planned for the survival MMO’s Deep Desert region.

In an upcoming update for the game Dune: Awakening on Steam, the creative director Joel Bylos announced that they will be adding Player-versus-Environment (PvE) zones to the endgame Deep Desert area. This means that conflict-avoidant gamers can now acquire the game’s top-tier resources without engaging in competitive multiplayer against other players, a feature that was not previously accessible.

To tackle concerns from PvE (Player versus Environment) enthusiasts who felt excluded from the game’s final stages, Byblos explained Funcom’s objectives.

Bylos stated, “We aim to ensure that players focused on PvE can engage with the game’s final stages and enjoy the content designed for the endgame. We don’t want to obligate PvE players to participate in a PvP system if they have no inclination towards it.

For individual players, exploring the Deep Desert may prove somewhat tedious due to its grindy nature. However, Bylos emphasized that the game’s endgame remains geared towards guilds and groups. Moreover, he mentioned that the most valuable resources and spice fields in the Deep Desert will continue to be high-risk, high-reward zones for Player vs Player interaction.

Byls also discussed the overpowering Scout Ornithopter tactic prevalent in combat within the Deep Desert, where flying vehicles have become crucial for competitive gameplay. Funcom recently discontinued causing damage to other players by crashing vehicles into them, and they are now planning further adjustments to balance out the powerful Ornithopter. These modifications will include harsher penalties for those who arm Scout Ornithopters with rockets, as well as a new method for players to counteract these flying machines through the introduction of a new rocket launcher. Byls emphasized that while the Ornithopter is significant, it shouldn’t be the decisive factor in player versus player (PvP) skirmishes.

Bylos stated, “Our forces consist of infantry, ground vehicles, and air vehicles, each with distinct functions, advantages, and weaknesses. He emphasized that helicopters are crucial for traversing deserts but should not be the main force in combat situations. The team is considering modifications to the Deep Desert to encourage ground battles and emphasize the use of player construction.

The governing body known as the Landsraad is due for some modifications, too. Bylos admitted that the current setup of this endgame system might not be ideal, and adjustments are being made to offer more frequent, smaller rewards for individual players or small teams. At present, many tasks within the Landsraad involve collecting and delivering large quantities of resources or crafted items, which encourages hoarding materials before a task is revealed. Bylos clarified that this isn’t the intended purpose of the system and Funcom aims to make improvements wherever possible.

In spite of persistent criticisms from PvE players since its June 5 early access debut, Dune: Awakening has been thriving on Steam. This sci-fi survival game just set a new record for simultaneous players, boasting a staggering 189,000 gamers, as reported by SteamDB. Additionally, Funcom revealed that the game has sold over one million copies, setting a new milestone as the fastest-selling game in their studio’s history.
