Funcom appears to have a successful game with Dune: Awakening, as it attracted more than 140,000 players simultaneously on Steam during its launch day. This impressive number was reached only five days after the online multiplayer survival title was made available early for those who bought either the $70 Deluxe Edition or $90 Ultimate Edition, which included early access for a period of five days.
Yesterday, June 10th, Dune: Awakening dropped, and it’s been breaking records ever since! As I type this, over 142,050 gamers are simultaneously exploring its vast digital landscape on Steam โ a number that was already growing before its release. What’s more, Dune: Awakening sits comfortably atop the best-sellers list on Steam, with an entry price tag of $50. And to keep things running smoothly, Funcom swiftly released a launch-day patch to address any server instability and squash bugs. It’s been an epic start for this game!
Compared to Dune: Spice Wars, which is a strategy game, Dune: Awakening has garnered significantly more interest. In fact, it reached a peak of 8,397 simultaneous players on Valve’s platform, as indicated by SteamDB. This suggests that Dune: Awakening could be the most successful game in the Dune franchise so far. Notably, there were four other games set in the sci-fi series released between 1992 and 2001.
Moving forward, Funcom has confirmed that Dune: Awakening will be released on home gaming consoles by 2026. However, the specific systems that will carry the game haven’t been specified yet, although PS5 and Xbox Series X|S seem like the most likely candidates. As for the Switch 2, its involvement appears less certain at this point.
