Dune 3 official social media shares cast’s reaction to the trailer
The first trailer for Dune: Part Three was revealed at a special event in Los Angeles on March 16, 2026, before being released online on March 17th. Director Denis Villeneuve presented the trailer with stars Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Javier Bardem.
A video posted on Instagram shows the cast and crew excitedly celebrating and clapping in a movie theater. Although Florence Pugh and Jason Momoa weren’t at the screening itself, the clip suggests they were very impressed with the first preview of the film.
Dune: Part Three will be based on the second book in Frank Herbert’s Dune series, titled Dune Messiah. Although Herbert wrote four additional books in the series, this upcoming film will finish director Villeneuve’s planned adaptation.
Initially, director Denis Villeneuve planned to step away from the Dune series after finishing ‘Dune: Part Two,’ intending to take a break. But the incredible response to the second film changed his mind, and he’s now committed to directing the final movie. He explained at a recent event in Los Angeles that he felt a strong desire – and a sense of duty – to complete the story.
Villeneuve shared that Dune: Part Three will be quite distinct from the previous films. He highlighted that it won’t just feel like a different Dune movie, but will also have a noticeably different speed and flow. He envisions the final film as a fast-paced, action-filled thriller with a complex story.
The next Dune movie will be set 17 years after the second film, which came out in 2024. Director Denis Villeneuve has explained that the story will focus on Paul Atreides grappling with the burdens of his power and his efforts to end a pattern of conflict.
The third Dune movie, currently planned for release on December 18, 2026, will bring back familiar faces like Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, and Josh Brolin. Jason Momoa will also return as Duncan Idaho, a character he played in the first film. The movie will introduce new cast members Anya Taylor-Joy, playing Paul’s sister Alia, and Robert Pattinson as Scytale.
