Dumbledore star’s son slams HBO’s “pointless” Harry Potter TV series

As a gamer with an extensive background in Harry Potter, I find myself divided on the upcoming reboot of the series. On one hand, I am excited about the potential for fresh storytelling and exploring uncharted territories within the wizarding world. However, as someone who grew up with the original movies, it’s hard not to feel a pang of nostalgia when considering changes to such an iconic franchise.

Jared Harris, the son of the late actor Richard Harris (who portrayed Professor Dumbledore in the initial Harry Potter films), expresses his belief that HBO’s upcoming remake is unwarranted.

After a long period of back-and-forth work, the Harry Potter television series is now moving into its initial production phase, as casting calls have been made public for the main characters.

Regardless of the new characters joining the magical realm, there’s still an appetite for some old favorites to reprise their film roles.

In the years following the production of the Harry Potter films, some of the original cast members, such as Richard Harris (who portrayed Professor Dumbledore), have sadly passed away.

Viewers had anticipated that Jared, who has previously acted in Chernobyl and The Terror, might consider following in his father’s footsteps. However, when The Independent inquired about taking on such a role, he politely declined, saying “No, thank you.

Harris stated, “Moreover, I’m curious as to the reason. Honestly, I can’t comprehend. The movies were exceptional – just let them be.

The actor mirrored a widespread opinion on the internet, leaving many perplexed about the motivation behind remaking J.K. Rowling’s books into a fresh TV series, especially since viewers have easy access to the already-existing eight films at their convenience.

“A Harry Potter TV show is a terrible idea. You want a 1:1 adaptation of the books? You need to see subplots like ‘Hermione tries to free slaves but they LOVE being slaves’ and ‘Harry and Ron do so much homework?’” one fan posted on X/Twitter.

A supporter shared their mixed emotions towards the series, stating, “On one hand, I’m excited that it will receive further development, but on the other, it’s disappointing that we seem to lack fresh ideas nowadays and are forced to revisit shows which might not necessitate a comeback.

It’s predicted that HBO’s adaptation of Harry Potter will continue for at least ten years because Warner Bros., which owns the rights, intends to bring all seven of J.K. Rowling’s books to life in a more detailed way than the movies could due to their time constraints.

As a devoted fan, I’d be thrilled if Gary Oldman gets a chance to embody the most powerful wizard in the universe – Dumbledore! If Harris isn’t keen on reprising his father’s role, it seems that Oldman is eagerly vying for the part.
