Dukes of Hazzard car jumps over 150ft fountain in front of massive crowd

The iconic “General Lee” vehicle from the Dukes of Hazzard TV show, a duplicate of it, has become popular online as it soared an impressive 150 feet over a fountain in a viral social media post.

As I stood amidst the vibrant crowd at the Somernites Cruise in Somerset, Kentucky this past Saturday, June 28, I couldn’t help but feel the electric excitement in the air. This annual event, stretching from April to October, was a special celebration of its 25th anniversary – quite an achievement for any gathering!

Stunt driver Raymond Kohn, hailing from Northeast Ohio, attempted a daring leap with his look-alike car over the fountain – this spectacle was reminiscent of the TV series “The Dukes of Hazzard,” which originally aired from 1979 to 1985.

As a thrill-seeker, I find myself in a heart-pounding predicament. Deliberately stepping into a life-or-death scenario, all I can do is zero in on one objective: nailing that ramp. Having practiced it numerous times before, we’ve got a reasonable understanding of the car’s response to my action. So here we go, hoping for the best!

Many different videos showing the jump have become popular on social platforms, spreading rapidly on TikTok, as well as Instagram, and other sites.

Actors from the show were there

As a dedicated gamer, I was one among the staggering 35,000 spectators that gathered in Somerset for an electrifying event. It wasn’t just fellow gamers and enthusiasts filling the streets; there were also onlookers who had come to catch a glimpse of the action as well.

At a recent event, the two stars who embodied Bo and Coy Duke on The Dukes of Hazzard – John Schneider and Byron Cherry – were present, meeting and greeting fans by personally signing memorabilia related to their famous car ride.

Ray introduced me to the event director, which led to my being here. Later on, Schneider found out about it and joined us too,” Cherry explained. “I’m surrounded by little ones, aged 3, 4, and 5, who know this show inside out. It’s an honor to be a part of history.

Supporters of “The Dukes” series have long been clamoring for a revival, yet so far there’s only been talk without any concrete results, aside from whispers that it might air on Netflix.
